Well for tilesets, I'd definitely choose the 'feel' of 2k3. For ease of writing in advanced functions, xp is the winner thanks to ruby. If you are willing to work hard enough, you can do pretty much anything in XP with 2k3.

I think RMXP went overboard with putting Ruby in. I mean, Ruby has a large API, whereas Lua has a small one and was meant to be embedded into programs. Lua itself can be learned in an afternoon too... though it's a different story if you want to embed it in C...

Whatever RM version comes next I strongly would advise them to use Lua instead.

Yes. It's difficult to learn where to place everything and whatnot, but you can.

oh yea I remember doing that shit, it takes for ever though. It'll take as long to import it properly as it did for you to make the damn thing.

Yes. You're better off downloading and importing them, though.

I'd like to help! I've been toying with rpg maker 2003 and xp for awhile now and I can deffinately help you where graphics are involved. I suck at scripting but for charactersets and tilesets I can help you out. :D

Making your own tilesets is a pain but doable. What i do is take a pre-made one and throw my own stuff over it, that way its the same size, right color etc. But you still have to know what goes where.
