Message box shakes instead of scrolling.
« on: September 11, 2009, 10:24:37 pm »
I have'nt done a long post in a while so I don't know if it effects a forum posts but it does affect private messages.

When I make a mesage to the bottom of this white box instead of scrolling down the message box jumps up and down and I can't see what I am typing as a result so I can't fix any errors even though I wish I could.

Does anybody have any constructive suggestions?

If you're using IE8, you should see a "compatibility view" button right next to the refresh button. Click that before posting and all your problems should disappear. "Compatibility view" is apparently how Microsoft is covering its ass on this one, because it knew it was rolling out IE8 just to screw with the people who doggedly cling to Microsoft instead of making the jump to Firefox.

I recall gingerest metioned that problem when he typed in IE.
But I didn't get that problem while using IE8 to post in the compendium.

But i do recall i got the same problem elsewhere, since I'm using a Chinese IME, I have to hit the keyboard many times to input a single character, the textbox jumped like wild each time I hit the key. :lol: :picardno

-------------

Triforce, what screen resolution did you use when that problem happens?

I haven't really posted lately , but the problem seems to come and go xD
Exactly the same as utunnels describes it !

It happens after you type a certain amount of letters :S  Its like the textbox keeps flickering up and down ...its annoying after a bit , So too be honest I would rather double post than write a huge amount like that xD

I should look for my screen res too !

I've had the problem once before.

So I hit a bunch of enters putting gibberish at the end of my messages and voila, no problems.

I tested it in my IE8, and found the problem. It has nothing to do with screen resolution or page size.

If you give col/row attributes to the textarea but don't give width/height attributes simultaneously via css, the scroll bar will have that strange behavior.

For example:

This line has that problem
<textarea rows="40" cols="20" style="width:700px;">

This line doesn't have that problem
<textarea rows="40" cols="20" style="width:700px;height:200px;">

This line doesn't have that problem
<textarea style="width:700px;height:200px;">

Wow utunnels, wow. I've had this IE8 problem on every forum I've been on, so it must be a very common way of doing things.

Yeah, I think it is new?
Even IE7 or IE8 in IE7 mode doesn't have that problem.

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />
For example, put this line in the page head will remove that problem for IE8, just for testing purpose though.

I am sorry but I have been having major acid problems causing me to not feel good so I haven't been here much.

I don't even know WHERE to find Screen Resolution on Vista cause Vista is very different then XP on where things are located.

The rest of my family all uses XP so I am the only one on this OS.

If Windows Vista were a car the steering wheel would be placed in the back seat right behind the driver's seat and the radio would be in the front seat so you would have to tune to your favorite station BEFORE you drive meaning you have to get out twice.       :picardno

Not to mention they switch the gas/brake pedels in opposite sides and when visabiliy is low you have to stop the car and go to the front passenger seat to flip the wiper blades on.  :picardno

Talk about a confusing car. :oops:
