Yeah, the repetition really detracts from it. Still, some of the newer generation games do have enough new features to make it worthwhile. I really liked the Torn World in Platinum. Cool music, cool concept, an opportunity for Janus (my firemonkey) and Zeal (my Staraptor) to beat up Cyrus..
The OCD factor just makes everything worse, too. I never go into a Gym unless I'm at least four or five levels above the leader's strongest Pokemon. I think the Sinnoh Champion's team is around level 60, so I've got a lot of grinding to do. Magus (Giratina) and Janus are still only 55.

I know exactly what you mean. I liked Diamond so much when it came out that I had put 700+ hours into it. No joke. I was THAT addicted

I still can't decide which version I'm going to get when it hits US.

Aargh!!! I just remembered that it will be released in the US before it gets released over here in the UK!!!

Haha, the DS is region-free, just import.

I don't think there's any difference, but in Platinum's European copies, the game corner's slot machines were removed.

I may just do that actually. And i was actually quite surprised by the lack of slot machines. I liked the slot machines on D/P, and it also meant I had to buy coins to buy stuff. Oh, and they were "thoughtful" enough to put 2-5 coins at random machines every day. Yay... NOT

YES! Exactly! Couldn't think what it was that can get you off it for awhile, repetition! I stopped playing cause for one didn't find the newer guys interesting(I got Diamond cause I thought this was the only one where you could get the old Pokemon didn't know the others did that as well)and that everything felt the exact same, doing the same pattern agaiin and again and again.
Pokemon could be so much better if it had a plot. The manga Pokemon Adventures is great. They only translated the first few but somebody online is still translating them and is currently up in Gold/Silver soon to dive into Ruby/Sapphire. I've read Red/Blue and from what I have, if they applied the story to the games, it'd make it even more worthwhile than it already is(which is a lot)!

I'm going to get Heart Gold as soon as it comes out in the US. I will not be trying to complete my pokedex in that game. I'll just do a play through. When I beat gold back when I was a kid, I did a very quick play through and didn't end up going through the Kanto region. I think I'll do both regions this time. It will be very cute to have Cyndaquil wander by my side <3. Though I've always thought that Chikorita was the cutest starter from that generation. It will be very interesting for me to revisit 2nd gen. I haven't really touched it for 10 years.

im gonna go ahead and assume that the gameboy color is not able to hook up with your fancy dual screen things.
the last pokemon game i played was pokemon stadium 2. i hooked my gold up to it and had lots of fun.

i havent gotten into the new games much because quite frankly theres way too much to do. too many pokemon. too many stats. too many items. too many EVERYTHING. it just makes my head want to explode!
though... i am looking forward to heartgold.

Oh my god.....today on serebii hilarity ensued. XD From this morning at 3 EST at page 207, we were discussing about the newest images. Afterwords I sleep since I couldn't sleep at all and hours later, I see 50 new pages. And we've been raging on and on about rosters (complainers) to derailing like which pokemon female lead is hot and man it was crazy. XD I'm  A_Merry_Snowrunt by the way. Man, serebii sure has crazy moments. I might import this game as a gift, but I will ask my parents if that is alright with me since I have the cash to import it off of play asia.

Zombie,  you do realize that most, if not all of the 4th gen abilities and stats will be in heart gold/soul silver? Some of the stats and abilities and such(such as the pokemon's nature) I don't really pay attention to, but some new aspects are interesting to me. So basically HG/SS seems like it's going to update the game play and graphics to look like Platinum and then tack on some extra stuff like your pokemon following you around. I'm cool with that, though. I'm just not really buying into the hype so much. But I will wait till it comes out in the US and even though now I don't even need to, I will buy the game to support Nintendo and Game Freak!

Once this is all over, 2010 will come around the corner and then we'll speculate about the fifth generation. I better see a Minun and Plusle pre-evolve with a new special item to help breed one.

Yeah, you know. I never understood pokemon like that. Sure they're cute, but they completely suck and are useless to me... I'm not sure why they keep coming up with more and more baby pokemon and crappy pokemon that can't fight at all. I'd rather have a slightly more rugged one that is useful to me. At least there are cute pokemon that are insanely powerful... like arcanine! In the first gen, it was a pseudo legendary :3. As in, it was really powerful without being a Mewtwo or a Molres or something like that. Dragonite is the most powerful non legendary, but Arcanine is second. Oh please oh please let Growlithe be in the wild in HG! I really wanna catch one early in the game and raise it, like I always do whenever a Growlithe is available early on in the game.

Ah, Pokemon. I remember the days of that, when I was into it. Red, Blue, and Yellow. Also Gold and Silver. Back when Pokemon were serious and not all happy-happy-joy-joy like they are. Heck, I bet you could stab one to death these days and it would continuously screech it's joyous cry with a smile on it's face. (After third generation, everything became to happy, methinks. It was all joy, and no realism like there used to be.)

Of course, I plan to get Heart Gold to relive the old days of the catch-a beasts, and perhaps import my influenced-by-friend buy Diamond Pokemon into it.

I recall you can trade (according to serebii) once you reach Eucretek City or once you get a pokedex. And Pal  Park is in Fuchsia City. Just like I expected.

That's what evolution is for. One of the recurring themes in Pokémon is having the weakest, most useless species in the world evolve and grow into something with tremendous potential, like Magikarp --> Gyarados or Feebas --> Milotic.  8)

A lot of what the developers have been doing in that regard is fleshing out many of the species that used to be limited one-stage evolutions. Having a pre-evolution to work with can sometimes help people by adding variety and management options in stat and moveset building, depending on the species.

They've been adding post-evolutions too. See Pokémon species 461-478.  :)

Oh please oh please let Growlithe be in the wild in HG!

If the developers stay true to Gold's Pokémon availability, Growlithe should show up on Routes 36 & 37 in the Lv. 13-15 range, which was fairly early on if I remember correctly.
