The General Pokémon Thread
« on: September 09, 2009, 02:25:25 pm »
I was gonna make a post in the video games thread, but I thought this could be used as an all-purpose thing, for trading/battling/codes, if needed.

ANYWAY, someone on 2chan got an early copy of SoulSilver and is posting images of her progress. It's confirmed a few things, revealed some stuff, etc.

Check out the pictures and info: http://pokebeach.com/

I really can't wait for this. I got impatient enough to import SS, which'll arrive next week.

I really want to get a hold of these games. I can wait though. I have my current Platinum playthrough too. Catching one of everything that I can, and nicknaming every single one. atm, I have about 40, all nicknamed.

I still can't decide which version I'm going to get when it hits US.
Until then, Platinum will be a good enough distraction. I just got to the Elite Four.

Do you know how she got an early copy?

The pedometer works a lot like those old Pikachu toys did. You clip it to your belt when you go out for a walk, to school, or to the store, or just sit there shaking it. As it detects steps or shakes, it gains "Watts" which are used as a form of currency. At ten watts, you can run into a wild Pokemon and try to catch it. At three, you can use the Itemfinder.

When you're trying to find a wild Pokemon, four blocks of grass show up. You choose one of the four, and you may or may not find a Pokemon. When you catch it, it gets stored on the Pokewalker until you can connect it back to your DS.
When using the Itemfinder, six blocks of grass show up. Again, pick one, and you may or may not find an item. You can store ten items on the Pokewalker until you connect it back to the DS.

You encounter different Pokemon and items depending on what area you are in. Currently there is one area you can get through a special event, and there might be more (though I'll probably miss it anyway because I always get my games late).

As your walking, your Pokemon's happiness and experience (I think) go up slightly.

Whoa, thats pretty cool.

But, people will now train their Pokemon up using a slightly sicker method that usual... Those people? Well, lets just say a bunch of people who like Flannery and May a bit TOO much...

Or, they'll use it the way they're supposed to and just go for a walk. You transfer one Pokemon over and clip it to your belt. The time spent walking around at school or work should be enough for a level or two, and you can catch up to three Pokemon or find a few items during your breaks. It's trying to inspire you to live a little healthier and put the game down for a few minutes or hours.

If you run across someone else with a Pokewalker, you'll be able to trade items. Very useful if someone else has unlocked an area that you haven't (like the Jirachi event area).

Its a good concept actually. It means that you could train 7 pokemon while on the move, if you also use the DS. Oh. I want these games SOOOOOO much!!!!

I'm actually surprised by how addictive Pokemon is. Its just... so much to actually do...

I just hate how people slag off the games because of what the shows did to it...

As of tomorrow, i'm continuing my Platinum "Catch and Nickname everything I can cos it's fun" Playthrough.

I loved it at first and still pick up my copy now and again, the problem was the whole series was to repetitive.

Yeah, the repetition really detracts from it. Still, some of the newer generation games do have enough new features to make it worthwhile. I really liked the Torn World in Platinum. Cool music, cool concept, an opportunity for Janus (my firemonkey) and Zeal (my Staraptor) to beat up Cyrus..
The OCD factor just makes everything worse, too. I never go into a Gym unless I'm at least four or five levels above the leader's strongest Pokemon. I think the Sinnoh Champion's team is around level 60, so I've got a lot of grinding to do. Magus (Giratina) and Janus are still only 55.
