Chrono Trigger Apocalypse Weekly Update #3
« on: November 25, 2009, 04:33:16 pm »
Well, all is going well, but it is rather slow.

The battle scene picture you will see shouldn't spoil you at all.

Anyway, I decided to recreate Dark Matter without the use of sprites and I think it turned out very very good.

The fight process will be slow, but the end result will be worthi t and give everyone a chance to step back in their favorite game.

A lot of work went into it for the short time it will be on the screen, but you can use it more than once, so anyone can get the full effect.

Love the rendition of Dark Matter. Will you be able to get little star thingies inside the black triangle?

Most likely the original Dark Matter used a DrawGeometry function in the Chrono Trigger game engine. I don't recall encountering actual sprites for it. I'm curious as to how you did this, did you just tell Flash to generate a triangle and warp it in various ways?

You could also painstakingly rotoscope each and every particle into the Dark Matter sequence.

I used to rotoscope lightsaber fights in my spare time.  It sucks, but it was worth the final result.

It's rather hard to explain because you actually have to use flash to understand. But I animated it myself, by frame by framing/tweening the triangle to perfection.

As for the little triangles, I am not sure if I add those, it may lag the computer, but some hardcore fans may get mad if I don't.

I plan to test it eventually.

I won't.  It's your work, and they have no right to complain over what you put into it because if they can't put their money where their mouth is, then this is all you'll ever see:

I smell shape tween and morph hints, at least that's what they were called in Flash 6. They're the only way to have a shape that changes dynamically in Flash in ways that don't involve simple streching and scaling. I've use them on a few ocassions in CTU myself, but not something most people would ever notice unless they knew what they were looking for.

Well since I use flash 8 it makes it a bit easier and a bit harder at the same time... like all programs lol.

Anyway, the black triangle is a bit of fbf and the finish is a motion tween.

The white triangle has a motion guide with motion tween attached.

It wasn't very painstaking to make as it really isn't an advanced attack, but it sure wasn't an easy thing to make right.

There will not be a weekly update again... On Saturday night, my body decided to get the flu, which is turning into bron chidus (or however you spell that damn thing).

So since I have been sick, there has been NO animating.

Just a bunch of thinking about how I can build episode 6.

Episode 6-10 are all basically written/storyboarded in a sense, but it all needs organization and true editing. The mistake I made with this episode... I didn't edit a script...

So anyway, call this the weekly update, I just took some cough medicine, that tastes like an awful syrup-y version of tequila... but tequila doesn't taste this awful.
