Enemy Types In Chrono Cross, Discuss the Names?
« on: June 19, 2009, 01:08:31 am »
It is metioned in the Ultimania that certain weapons are strong against certain kinds of enemies(always critical).
Although this is minor(at least I never care in game) but I think it is necessary to be writen in the encyclopedia.

But since those type names are not listed in game, so they need proper English equivalents.

  • 龍 - Dragon
For example, the 6 dragons, guardians of terra tower, TimeDevourer first form...
  • 人 - lt. Human, Humanoid
For example, Acacia PVT, Lynx, Harle, Solt, Peppor, Karsh....
  • 魔族 - Demon, Mystic(questionable)
For example, Dwarf, Tutanshaman, SnobGoblin, CatBurglar...
  • 浮遊 - Floating
For example, Alphabat, Gobledygook, WillO'Wisp, Wingapede...
  • ゾンビ - lt. Zombie, Undead
For example, Wraith, Crossbones, Dead Beat...
  • 軟体  - lt. Soft Body, Soft
For example, Gloop, Pentapus, YellowBelly, JellyBlubba...
  • 物質 - lt. Matter, Inorganic (Mostly those lifeless Robots, but not all)
For example, Cybot, Roborg, Bomber, Li'l Boxer, Polly, Mystic Knights...

* Some enemies don't have any types.

* Some enemies have more than one types, for example, Dragoon is human+dragon,  Dead Head boss is Floating+Zombie+Soft.

* There's an unmetioned type, only 3 kinds of enemies are of that type: Lagoonate, Mantarrey, Beach Bum.

* Stone weapons are usually strong against inorganic enemies.

* Cards, Shots are usually strong against floating enemies.

* Mastermune is strong against all types, that's why it usually does critical hits.

* Floral Rod is strong against human.

* Einlanzer is strong against undead.

* Hero's Blade is strong against demon, undead and soft enemies.

* ...

Wait, Demi-Humans are called "Mystics" by the Ultimania? That's confusing.

Also is there a "Fish" type? I think Mastermune doesn't do critical hits on the fish monsters in the El Nido Triangle.

Well, that's game mechanic not game script. Besides, dwarves and goblins are not demi-human IMO.

Yeah,  that means Mastermune can't do 100% critical to them.

Very interesting, is this how extensive it is, or is there more to it? Are there more enemy types, do certain weapons affect multiple enemy types, etc?

No, there're only 7 types. Most enemies are typeless, they are neutral to all weapons.
Yeah, for example the Mastermune affect multiple enemy types, or else the Spectra Swallow is slightly stronger than it.

Quote from: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/CHRONO_CROSS
三魔騎士(ビネガー&ソイソー&マヨネー) (Vinegar, Soysau, and Mayonnai / Ozzie, Slash, and Flea)

The 3 Mystic Knights (Ozzie, Slash and Flea)
The trio who served as Magus' subordinates in CT. You can battle them in a newgame+ in the Blend of Time. Their appearances are slightly different from their CT counterparts, but several of their famous skills remained. Besides, their types are "Matter" instead of "Mystic" hints that they might not be the same characters from CT. After the battle Sprigg can learn to transform into their shapes and use their skills as well.

Interesting. So the Mystic Knights could very easily be impostors in the Bend of Time...unless the term "Mystic" is a misnomer in Cross.

The dwarves appear in the Dragon God ending along with the demi-humans in Arni Village. I do consider them demi-humans.
