A common thing for me. Nearly always I don't get the situation or that is a joke or whatever. This was no exception.

By the way (though maybe pointless to tell), Australia isn't a continent, since the continent in question covers not only Australia but basically every island in the neighborhood except Indonesia's.

From Encyclopedia Britannica:
Australia -
Quote
the smallest continent and one of the largest countries on Earth, lying between the Pacific and Indian oceans in the Southern Hemisphere. Australia’s capital is Canberra, located in the southeast between the larger and more important economic and cultural centres of Sydney and Melbourne.

Besides, I have family there. It's a continent too. SRRY.

Not to be THAT guy, because I hate THAT guy, but probably more than your/our geography books were wrong.  Had a first grader today tell me humans were reptiles.  Sweeeet.

They're not really wrong. The concept of "continents" is highly arbitrary and vague; there are a lot of variations on the number of continents depending on what model you're using. According to different conventions, any of the following regions can be considered continents:

-Africa
-Antarctica
-Asia
-Australia
-Europe
-North America
-South America
-Americas (North and South America as one continent)
-Eurasia (Asia and Europe as one continent)
-Euro-Afrasia (Asia, Europe and Africa as one continent!)
-Oceania (Australia and Pacific islands as one "continent")
-and some models don't count Antarctica (counting it only as an "island" I guess)

Quote from: The Devil's Dictionary, Ambrose Bierce
BOUNDARY, n. In political geography, an imaginary line between two nations, separating the imaginary rights of one from the imaginary rights of the other.

I like to quote that wherever relevant and it seems such here. ^_^

Hah, for some reason the first question that popped into my mind was: "How was the plane ride?" Though maybe that's not funny depending on how much more leg room you needed for that ~9 hours.

Did I hear reports about a ten foot tall dude in a Grimmjow mask actually standing on the wing of a plane whilst it was in transcontinental flight, or was that my imagination...?
