Adventure
« on: May 15, 2009, 04:40:04 am »
Ladies and Gentlemen, Europe is calling.

This is part of the springtime of youth. I encourage everyone here to dream, discover, and explore with undying passion and unstoppable desire. It's the fine combustion of a daring soul. It's my first time doing something like this. I have concerns and worries, and before me lay challenges and obstacles.

As if that should stop anyone?!

If it don't feel right, probably isn't.  Keep your wits about you (which I doubt to be a problem) and you'll be fine.  Hope you don't get scammed/mugged etc etc.  On a lighter note, I DO hope you get to see some awesome sights, some foreign culture, some wild shit  8).  Don't be an American asshole, and don't suck the figurative dick of foreign culture either.  Soak it in and whatnot.

I'd probably get mugged.

Have an AWESOME time man!!!!

Good luck. Not that it'll do ya any good now, but don't forget your camera! We want to see pics of someone in a Grimmjow mask standing in front of castles and stuff.

As well, beware of the old adage - "Travelling makes a man wiser, but less happy." ;)

I'd probably get mugged.

I came VERY close to being mugged when I was in Paris. It was at night, in a "bad" part of the city, which is over by the Basilique du Sacre Coeur. The basilica is located on the top of the butte Montmartre - the highest point in the city. You can watch the sunset over Paris from the steps there and it is particularly badass. I highly recommend it to you Zeality (if you read this before you leave).

However, you have to walk through a rather bad part of Paris to get to the steps that wind up through an artsy district to the Basilica. There are many dark alleyways with Parisian whores that try to proposition you on the way, but there are a lot of shady characters that hang in the area a couple blocks away from the stairs. If you stick around crowds of people you'll be fine, but if you wander off you'll quickly get mugged.

I was walking in the area and suddenly found myself alone. I passed a suspicious looking dude hanging on the side of a building wearing a long coat and a hat to cover his face. I took a couple of turns and realized that he had been following me. He followed me for another block, and I decided to book it the fuck outta there and I ran until I found a crowd of people. I'm fairly certain that he was going to mug me, because it was pretty obvious that I was a foreigner. I think he was just waiting until I took a wrong turn down an alley like the stupid traveller he thought I was.

You were kinda asking for it though, walking alone at night in unknown dark alleyways... The nights here are fine if you stick to crowded areas/bars that you already know and things like all-night museums.

I don't think Zeality will visit France though. He said "UK, Germany, Czech Republic, and a stopover in Bratislava".
