New Lunar remake
« on: May 13, 2009, 04:18:46 pm »
Least of our concerns right now, but I just had to give props to this:
http://www.rpgamer.com/games/lunar/lunarhotss/propaganda/lunarhotss1.jpg

At first I was like, "Lolwut, again!?" But it's so beautiful...

EDIT: It gives a hotlinking error at first, but if you wait about five seconds, the JPEG should actually load. If not, just copy+paste and it should work immediately.

One of my favorite games ever. There are few RPG's as charming, entertaining, touching, and engrossing as The Silver Star Story Complete. I actually liked it way better than Eternal Blue. Is that coming out for the DS or something?

I wish they would make a Lunar 3 instead of a Lunar 1 remake. It seems like all the really deserving series never get remakes, but the really shitty ones get a hundred. Funny how that works out.

It's for the PSP, which explains why Lunar fans are basically getting Xenogears with Nall from all appearances. At least Nall kicked waaaay more ass than Chu-Chu. I wouldn't mind seeing Eternal Blue done this way too. Can you imagine Jean doing all sorts of Fei-deathblow moves after she gets kung-fu-ized?

One has to wonder what's with all the remake-milking lately.

1. Is it because the IP holding corporation has lost the original scenario designer and doesn't know where to go, but still knows the franchise is popular and wants quick cash?

2. Is it because the IP holding corporation is trying to renew interest in the franchise and thus create a market for future new entries?

I really hope it's #2.

Me too... Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete was so effing awesome.  Sadly, I have yet to play Lunar: Eternal Blue.

That was one of my first RPGs...

Dyne's Monument on the mountain crest overlooking the Burg countryside is one of my favorite locales from ANY video game in history...

Many people like Eternal Blue better, but I think it lacked a lot of the charm that made SSS so damn good.

Although, the Epilogue after you beat EBC that ties up loose ends was pretty damn cool. It was practically an entire RPG in and of itself.

I still haven't passed this game yet, and there is another remake coming?

Well, considering it's for the PSP, it's out of my reach. Staying with the PSX version then.

I've only played Legend & Dragon Song...The GBA one was okay (I guess the original had anime sequences & junk which made it better, but w/e)...the DS one was bru-fucking-tal...I've still got a long way to go in it, but it seems alright (especially as the first RPG on the system)...

Lunar SSS and EB were really special, just due to the writing Working Designs put into it back in the day. It was soooo well done that despite the graphics being archaic, you could really get into the story and actually cared about the characters and what they were going through. I just hope GameArts finds a translator with that much panache now that Working Designs is kaput.

Yeah, I played one of the Working Designs versions, and let me tell you that it's a real tragedy the company went under. They were really motivated to impress their fans and they tried really hard to make the games as best as they could possibly be... adding translators notes in the manuals, etc. It really was even worse than Rare going to Microsoft >_>

Wow, this is very exciting news. :) Might have go out and purchase myself a PSP now, just for this game. I'm a huge fan of the Lunar series - both SSS and EB had such charm to to them. I sometimes wish RPGs were still limited in graphics, because it basically forces the creators to make the writing and characters exciting and endearing. New games just don't have the same charm! Here's to hoping EB will eventually be released on PSP; I lent my copy out to a friend years ago and never got it back. I still regret that decision. :P

Yeah, between this and the Star Ocean remakes I think I'm gonna have to give in and get a PSP.
