Chrono Trigger retranslation announced
« on: April 14, 2005, 03:22:38 pm »
Though it's been in progress for some time now, the Chrono Trigger retranslation by RPGOne has finally been announced, and has subtly appeared on the projects page. It is 33% done. The goal of RPGOne is to translate it exactly from the original Japanese, including all names and jokes. It should prove interesting; check http://www.rpgone.net/modules.php?name=Projects&op=ShowPage&pid=4 for the project page.

That's cool. I can't wait to see some of the progress they've made. I've always appreciated SkyRender's previous translation work and their previous FFVI translation patch(es) was(were) cool too.

Thier ff6 translation was down right terrible. There was no need for it in the first place. Ct does not need a retranslation either. People are all bent out of shape and think that ted woosely translated it incorrectly. well thier wrong. ff6 and CT had great localizations. there is no need for this.

anyone heres a great review of rpgone's ff6 retranslation http://www.the2d.com/content/view/67/29/

Which should give you an idea on how thier handeling of Chrono Trigger's script will be

I personally would like the translation just for clarification in really murky areas in the regular translation. Maybe some insight can be gained from it that we couldn't have figured any other way.

Chrono trigger is infact diffrent in japanese than in english, most localizations just keep some of the story intact. aka the Tales of Phantasia Translation by dejap. other stuff noteable in Chrono Trigger japanese, is one of Kurono's punishments is to tickle him to death. and dalton farting in the japanese version, and the people at lucca's telepod talk about something diffrent than in the english version.

I'm helping with this project. but my time to work on it isn't ready, gotta wait till the beta testing.

as for the person for the qoute above. yeah people might now like the retranslation, but please don't put down other people's work. (maybe you just like ted's work better cause that's all you remember) plus you gotta have a love for the japanese culter too.

I find it funny how you are trying to pass opinion off as fact.

So here's a fact: Don't like it? Don't play it.

oh also, a localization isn't a TRANSLATION meaning that most of the game is completely rewritten to help the story move along.

The way I see it, most of Ted's work is on the same par as most Subtitle jobs...It's mostly hackny bs cut together to save (or simply because of lack of) time and money.

This is especially the case with Chrono Trigger, as whole text boxes were removed, if I remember correctly.

There were many things in FFVI that were incorrectly translated. Mainly though, it was for purists. I mean, c'mon, who were they fooling by calling a spell that instant kills 'Doom'? And another thing, you just shouldn't change a person's name...It...It's just not right...It's all a man has, right? Wait, was that something from the Crusible? Or Braveheart? w/e...
