(though doesn't Sony own some stock or some such in Square still...?)

I don't think so, but I do know that in the late 90s Squaresoft signed on for a number of exclusive titles to be released for Sony.  I think that's what's preventing any of the PS1 ports from being released outside of PSP or PS3s online market.

Now a "remake" of Chrono Cross for the DS may be doable, working around their old agreement with Sony.  Change the graphics, add features, tweak the systems around and suddenly it's not the same game on a different system, and Sony has no rights to claim the title as their exlusive property anymore.

Of course, the PSP basically being a portable PS1 with UMD video hardware makes porting there a lot easier.

I would think that after a small 10 years, that agreement has either been fulfilled or it is out of date.

@ Onslaught: You can forget that, Kato himself said that he didn't like the writing in RD at all, so we'll never see that again

It's more like a portable PS2, but not quite.

It's like a portable PS2 without the awesome games.

Eh, CC on DS would be great and all but I'd rather see Radical Dreamers.

I wouldn't mind if they'd make it like CT or CC rather than text driven. I don't mind ebooks, but I'd prefer to not have an ebook masquerading as a game...

I never put RD in the book category, it always was very much a game. Unless you don't count Zork or Lurking in the Darkness as games.

I don't think RD would fare all too well with today's audience--it's a game type that doesn't seem to lure in as many people as it should...just try marketing RD to non-Chrono fans to people today, would they play it at all?

It feels to me very much like an electric "Choose Your Own Adventure" book.

Don't get me wrong, I like reading, but it just seems to me that RD would've been better off released as a paperback.

It was basically an RPG with less interface and graphics.

If the Ace Attorney series can make it, I think RD has a fare shot (especially if marketed as a Chrono game).

But I was asking if there were any examples of SQUARE porting a game that initially started on a Sony system onto a Nintendo one...Disgaea is not a Square-Enix game...

Are there any examples of S-E porting a game that was initially released on a Sony system at all?

Why, yes there are. They were not ported to a system, necessarily. But

You're basically saying that Mitsuda's soundtrack for RD was useless :?

Honestly I would not mind a port of Chrono Cross even if it was on the DS. As long as it held as much quality as the original or more.

Not what I meant, although TBH, I hardly notice the music for itself as I'm going through it. Like it said, with it being "text driven", my mind sees it as a book. When I'm caught up in reading, music becomes a background noise and is generally disregarded.

CT on the DS was great to hear...

CC on the DS I would pre-order in a heartbeat.

Have any of you guys played Suidoken Tierkreis yet? On my arefour its takes up 256mb(thats probably the cart size) and it has FMVs, voice acting, and a lot of gameplay as well delicious graphics. It basically looks like CC, but a lot better. I definitely think a CC port is doable and even more so since the DSi came out.

Jeeze with techology we have nowadays, wouldn't it be easy to compress the file size?

Chrono Cross on the DS? The game has a resolution of 800x600, the DS sadly only has like 267x???, the amount of RAM and the power of the CPU also couldnt support it seeing that the DS only has a 4MB RAM and a 33MHz cpu, there is no TECHNICAL way for the DS to possibly handle the amount of polygons or any other specs for that matter,

but remember,
Just because its not TECHNICALLY possible, doesnt mean it wont happen.
