I thought perhaps we could just use a savestate, but there's apparently no support for an SNES9x to ZSNES savestate converter, since SRAMs are supposed to work between the emulators. Why they aren't working here is a compelling mystery.
Off the top of my head, it could be a SRAM checksum issue. However, I have no faith in that theory since I haven't looked into it.

We can go ahead and say with reasonable certainty that the problem is SNES9x, which black screens the Retranslation at the Blackbird and kills Prophet's Guile on the trip down to the Ocean Palace.
Both of these expand the rom to 6 megs?

Yes. With PG, it was just sloppy development. We should have blanked CT's original, unused maps first.

I don't think it was the expanded ROM that caused the freeze in Prophet's Guile. I just tried an older, unexpanded version of PG and it still froze.
That scene in Prophet's Guile doesn't even work in BSNES or a real SNES. (It freezes while loading).

Lord J's srm seems to be nothing but a field of FF's.

Is it possible for Lord J to upload a savestate, and hope that the sram will save properly when it's used?

Yea i downloaded Snes9X to investigate trying it out and I couldn't get the jpg or rar version to work.  I read online that srm files should be compatible between zsnes and snes9x so I think Lord J can continue on zsnes worst case scenario.  If i can get a working SRM though I'll investigate this further.

On the snes9x i downloaded i used the debug room to skip to chapter 16 and it seemed to work :-/

Hm....

I just made an SRM with snes9X v 1.51 and it worked fine with zsnes.  Are you 100% sure you are  sending the right file.

Can you try:

1) make a brand new folder with nothing in it
2) load your rom in Snes 9X,
3) go to options => Settings
4)  Left of directory switch the drop down to "SRam" (Default is ./Saves)
5) Browse to your new directory
6) File => Save Other => "Save S-Ram Date"
7) Confirm the file is in your new directory.
8) Change the extension to ".jpg" and attach it.

Good news, that SRM actually worked :)

Bad news...the bug doesn't repro.  Well...good and bad I guess.  I tried that SRM file on both Snes 9X and Zsnes without a hitch.  So....yay?

In order to better debug what's going on here I added a dialogue box to the very beginning of the game on the latest patch.  The dialogue box has the date that the patch was posted.  Can you try the latest patch and confirm that the dialogue box appears?  If it doesn't then for some reason the patch is not being applied.

Lord J did you get a chance to try out the new patch to make sure the dialogue box is appearing when you start a new game (you don't have to save or anything).

No, I've been swamped with work this week. It'll be Saturday night at the earliest. My regrets for the delay.
