Chrono series update
« on: March 09, 2009, 07:00:21 pm »
Hello. I just wanted to post a short conversation I had with a Square representative...

Me: Hello. I have a question regarding a future title. I, along with a vast community of other fans have been anticipating a new title in the Chrono series. Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.. I have been a loyal Square patron for many years and hope you can at least ease my mind of this one question.
SEI [name]: Our parent company, SQUARE ENIX of Japan, has no current plans to create a new title in that series at this time. This is not to say that it will never happen, it's just that their development teams are currently focusing on numerous other projects
Me: Thank you.. is there any way to say bring a petition to square if enough votes are counted?
Me: Or rather would that have an impact at all
SEI [name]: We're aware of the demand from the fans.
Me: At least that much is recognized. I guess you have answered my question. Thank you James. All I can continue to do is be persistant :)

Yeah, that's the stock answer they've been giving for a few years...

They're going to be a lot more aware of the demand from fans soon.

But anyway, "demand from fans" conjures an image of a bunch of angry fanboys like the ones who somehow threatened to sue Square for giving a C&D order to Chrono Trigger Resurrection, so it's not exactly the best image to have.

Why would you sue the company that made your favourite game? That just makes no sense.
Anyway, it took ten years for Starcraft II to see the light of day. It's only been eight or nine years since Cross. Square might get around to it eventually, after their development teams finish with whatever they're currently working on. Just have patience!

8 or 9 years?  (I suddenly feel old...)

While I can't say I'm not really curious as to what Square would do with another Chrono game, I also can't help but be a little terrified since they seem to be suffering from George Lucas syndrome.  That is to say they're running their once genuinely awesome franchises into the ground by piling up so much overblown plot and and hoping that hammering at the audience with enough special effects power will make up for it.  That's just what I gather from what I've seen of FF12 and 13 so far. (13 -- yikes!  Have you seen the teaser videos??  They've entered the Matrix, or something.)

I'm of the opinion that the fans are doing a good enough job exploring the "many worlds as there are potentialities" with regard to the Chrono cannon.

(Good job, fans!)

Here, here! People often respond to fan works with the words "LOLZ fans = stupid," but I think fans can do great things with abandoned intellectual property. In retrospect, I would trust the fan community more than George Lucas himself for carrying on Star Wars goodness. While I trust Masato Kato to whip up a good scenario for any future canonical Chrono titles, the world will find out soon that the CE team has done a bang-up job.

They're AWARE. Does that mean they know about the huge subculture of fan projects, specifically playable games, that has developed under their noses?

Actually, yes.  That's how Chrono Resurrection and that other 3D Chrono Trigger remake got closed down.

Really?  I had heard they died of natural causes, but I haven't really been around the "in-the-know" Chrono crowd until now...

Lamesauce. In any case, they go about their business the wrong way.

Thank you for contacting SE in support of the Chrono series! I am curious, as I am more than ever motivated (again) to send another letter to SE Japan. Where/how did you contact Square-Enix? Could you provide me a link?

Instead of a handwritten letter (typed), which I thought would be more formal, I will change it up and send a professional e-mail to one of their reps. I never received a letter or anything back and I always wonder what ever happened to the letter I sent them. I wonder if they sent it to Kato and he was like "lolz, USA n00b fan".

I am going to do it. Should I send an e-mail to NA or Japan (via translation)?

EDIT: Grammar... :picardno

Nope.  They got the ol' one-two in the form of a C&D letter.  Both of them.

They're aware of our "demands"? Gives me a bit of a wrong image as well. I wonder if they even know about the Compendium.
