I'm looking forward to the Kato interview.  I really wonder if he echoes the sentiments expressed by Mistuda.  It was interesting to hear Mitsuda talk about how much trouble the crew went to in order to ensure this version was a just like the original.  Apparently it took a lot of work, since they basically had to redo everything anyway.  I had just assumed Square was being lazy again and trying to bludgeon a few more yen out of yet another sacred cash cow.  But Mitsuda seems to see the games aesthetic proximity to the original as a major accomplishment, not some marketing sleight of hand.  I wonder if he is following the party line, or if he really feels that that is what people wanted?  I know this a point of great contention among Chrono fans, but I think it would have been possible to revamp the graphics and sound, ala the recent FF and DQ remakes, while maintaining the integrity of the game.  I don't think it needed it.  CT is just fine as is... but it would have been nice to see them give the game the royal treatment like the other franchises.  Now, after re-reading the interview, I got to thinking that maybe the higher-ups -- and a lot of fans -- really did get exactly what they wanted on the DS.

Yeah, I didn't notice typical changes in graphics. The extra screen is a good addition, the overall amount of  color is increased, but a single character still use a 16 color palette. The music is just fine, perhaps not as good as the SNES version, but it is really hard to tell.

Anyway, looking forward to your translation.

I liked the extra screen, too, as far as basic display purposes.  Though I found the touch screen controls far too clunky.  I could hardly get around the fair :x; I can't imagine how many times I would thrown my DS across the room if I had tried to make it up Death Peak stylus-style.

As for the translation of Kato's interview, I believe that ShikiGami is on that one.  I'm sure everyone is tired of shifting through my unintelligible translations, anyway :D

Naw, your translations were great Lorenz. I haven't heard anything from ShikiGami recently, so I'm not sure where he is on the translation yet; weve got some NPC character description scans that might contain juicy tidbits though, if you're interested in tackling those.

Hi FaustWolf,  I probably won't be able to take a look at those scans for a little while, but if you don't have anybody else lined up, you can feel free to send them over and I'll tackle 'em when I get the chance.

Also, I was thinking it may be helpful to compile all of the translations and dump them some place special so it will be easier for people to peruse them without having to quest across pages of forum posts.  I'm sure Chrono players don't mind a good quest, but...

Yeah, jsondag2 asked me to create a spreadsheet doing just that. I guess I'll get it updated with all the links in one place and attach it to the first post, so everyone can find the translations quickly. Eventually the Compendium will probably host scanlations.

Ok...

I worked with a couple of my Japanese friends at school to create words from their language. I got to say it was an awesome experience, but some words seem, well out of place. I will attach the original documents they WORD processed, and my scanlations in the bottom links. There are some juicy things, but this is just the bulk of the words, not everything is translated. Help would be great if anyone wants to take a stab at what it should say... but let me shut up now and post them...

Fantastic work Magus22!

Interesting how the rough translation reads "The world where Crono lives connected to another..."

I might be jumping to conclusions here, but what if Eclipse Magus comes from the universe in which Crono is never resurrected?

Overlap to this world...
So it strongly hints that it might be a Y split?

I think it just means the world where the player's version of Crono comes from, as opposed to that of Eclipse Magus. Eclipse Magus doesn't express any surprise at Crono being alive.

Magus expresses surprise ever? Also, since he knows that he is in the DBT, i'm sure he isn't shocked to see people from other timelines there.

Magus expresses surprise several times in CT.

When something surprising occurs, Magus' sprite expresses anger.
