Strategy on beating... [SPOILERS!]
« on: January 20, 2009, 02:04:09 pm »
the Dream Devourer. I would like to know what the best party is for defeating her.

I've tried Crono, Frog and Lucca, but I couldn't do much damage.

I'd like to keep Frog in the party because he's my resident healer, but if you guys have a better idea tell me.

If you have to have Frog, then take him. Take Robo with the Apocalypse Arm and a Dragon's Tear for 9999 damage.

I take Crono for Luminaire. But the choice is yours who goes with Frog and Robo.

Robo's a better healer, dude, sorry to rain on your parade...Also, use your Tabs if you've got 'em (hope you spammed the Black Omens)...I say Crono, Lucca & Robo...That was my Lavos team & I didn't need to change up for the DD (though by the time I got through CTDS & got to the DD I was at level 60...I assume you're more or less there too?)...Last I heard you were still using Triple Techs? Don't.

It's still a spoiler for people who haven't played through CTDS (it's not even out in PAL yet!), Shadow. He doesn't need to remove anything.

I took Frog, Chrono, and Ayla for massive damage. Then again I had a whole hell of a lot of mega-elixirs

I agree on Robo, but more with Crisis Arm than Apocalypse.

I had Crono, Magus, and Robo for the fight. Luminaire, Dark Matter, and Rapid-Fire Fist. Heal Beam when needed.

Yeah, them Ethers are gonna be your friends in that fight...I only use Mega Elixers if everyone's MP is down at the same time (which can happen)...

Flare>Dark Matter...Keep Lucca.

How do you guys all deal with the Dream Devourer's elemental absorption? Is there an easy way of predicting that?

It's probably obvious, but make sure all your characters are immune to "Chaos" status.

Since he often uses MP Busters to counter magic, I went with a purely physical team. Crono offers great offensive magic and good physical attacks, so he's really the best of both worlds. I used him, Ayla, and Robo.

Use Crono's Luminare while you have MP. Then you can switch to physical attacks.

Robo's Apocalypse Arm equipped with the Dragon's Tear came it handy here. Every attack had a 30% chance of dealing 9999 damage which was nice. Also his Heal Beam could come in handy to keep your party's HP in the 900s. (DD has a powerful attack that can take 700+ worth of damage.)

You can start Ayla off with her most powerful techs (doubles and even the triples), but beware of the MP buster counter.

If you have a lot of ethers and prefer using magic, I'd swap Ayla with Lucca. Her Flare works just as well as Luminare. When the party is low on MP have her use Ethers and Elixirs.

I use Turbo (Hyper) Ethers when DD uses Mana Reaver. One time, I accidentally got careless and had everyone attack during Chaos Zone Phase while everyone was nearing low on HP.  Two Chaos Zones put Crono and Robo out, and Glenn attacked DD with 50 HP left. I didn't let DD counter b/c I reset at that point. I pwned him later, though, b/c of Apocalypse Arm with everyone low.

How do you guys all deal with the Dream Devourer's elemental absorption?

Easy. Use Physical attacks.

(DD has a powerful attack that can take 700+ worth of damage.)

No attack from DD did more than 200 damage that I knew of. I'm in the 80s on level, with everyone's equipment maxed out.

I did this at the low 60s, but I'm pretty sure DD has an attack that causes massive damage to one character no matter what armor they're wearing. I did some research to make sure it wasn't just me, and a few other walkthroughs mention this.

Does it have a name? Either way, I guess I never let if happen to me.

I'm not certain :(. I may have to play through again to find out, but it's probably one of these attacks...

Heavenly Peal -Thunderbolt, extreme light damage to one character

Starfall -Energy Spheres, strong physical damage to one character

I believe it's Starfall, but I could be wrong.

Oh, well. Since all my characters are at 999 HP all I need is Cure 2 to get rid of that problem.

Cure 2, I thought, was useless. I normally use Robo's or Frogs techs and with this one I when with Frog(mostly because I went with Robo on Lavos).

Yeah. It's not a major deal. I was in the early 60s when I defeated him. Most of my characters had 999 HP, so a little bit of healing did wonders. I used Robo's Heal Beam here.
