Goddammit. I'm never saving in the End of Time again.
« on: December 29, 2008, 03:35:56 pm »
So last night I saved my progress at the End of Time in the middle of trying to grab everyone's ultimate ultimate equipment (the gear you'll find in the Dimensional Vortices), only to load my file this morning on the way to work and spawn inside the fence with no way out. I've tried loading it up several times to see if my luck would change, but to no avail. The fucking idiots are stuck. I had similar glitchy experiences saving here in the past on CTDS, but I was always able to get out with little difficulty because I wasn't embedded in there. Has this happened to anyone else?

Are you serious? That can happen? Never to me, but nobody is safe if that can.

Yea someone else posted about that too, I think it was Radical Dreamer or something.   The EoT is glitched in this version.

Man, I feel your pain. Something like that happened to me in the SNES version way back when.

Is there a walk-through-walls code available yet? Also, by hacking the save file, you might be able to change the coordinates your characters are loaded in. Walk-through-walls is probably your best bet though.

This is why I sequentially use every available save slot, instead of saving over the same file multiple times. It makes avoiding glitches or correcting mistakes during the course of the game much more manageable. Rolling back to a previous save slot is a hell of a lot better than starting from scratch.  :(

Has anyone noted any consistencies about how this bug is caused? Does positioning your lead character on the save point in a certain fashion increase or reduce the likelihood of this occurring? I haven't had this happen yet, and I do tend to use the EoT save point fairly frequently. I'm kinda scrathing my head over here.  :?

As for codes, the only AR codes that I've seen to this point are just the usual standbys: max HP/MP, infinite items & gold, inventory modifiers, and the like. Haven't seen any "No clipping" or walk-through-walls codes yet.

Yup. I got this bug ~3 hours in. Any other game I would have been done with right then, but I restarted. Now I alternate between two save slots and I don't save in the End of Time.

I never had that happen, that just sounds odd though.

Thank God I can still start a New Game+ with what I have so far, but now I have to go through the entire game again just to reach the Dimensional Vortices. Bloody hell.

I actually had this happen to me once on the PSX version. It happened once because it scared the hell out of me and I decided never to save at the EoT again. I was able to free Crono from his pixellated confines, but I don't know how I did it. Button mashing I assume.

Now I frequently have two save files, so that if something happens to the first I will have a back-up at least. I have a tendency to save over my games accidentally.  :picardno

Interesting! If it happened on the PSX version too, Square's beta testers have failed to uncover it not once, but twice.

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...you can't get fooled again!"
~George W. Bush (edited per chrono eric's superior memory)

EDIT: Also, it happened to me on the SNES version. I *distinctly* remember this, and a bite mark on my SNES controller serves as physical evidence. Thus, the End of Time save bug is a running bug throughout all versions of Chrono Trigger! Players beware!

Yes, I'm positive it happened on the PSX version because that was the last version I played and that's why I remember it clearly.

Also, on an unrelated note: That is likely the funniest thing that G dubya has ever said. Although I believe it was "fool me twice...ain't gonna fool me again!" but I may be selectively remembering it in a more hillbilly-esque way.

EDIT: Apologies FaustWolf! Upon reviewing the video of that historical day, the correct quote is: "Fool me once, shame on...(long pause)...shame on you...you fool me you can't get fooled again!"

This among other genius quotes from Bush can be found here, including such classic gems as:

"What is our children learning?"

and "too many OB/GYN's can't practice their love for women across this country"

Oh man, all versions of CT have this glitch? I guess I misunderestimated Square's carelessness.

I'd just like to add that my sister also got screwed over by that fence bug in the SNES version, way back then. It's kind of funny considering she's the one who always gets blasted with completely absurd glitches when it comes to playing games. Then again, since it's happened to a few other people too, I suppose it isn't all that absurd. :P

Though if it matters, she used to save like 10 times in a row at each save point...

Huh... That hasn't happened to me, unless it did before I lost my memory.

That's weird, I save in the EoT frequently but have never come across this problem...Maybe it depends on how you save? I usually don't go through the menu for save points (I think you still have to for map saves) anymore...Unless I need to use a Shelter or something, but that doesn't happen in the EoT since there's that healing water or w/e it is, I forget...>_>
