Haste with MAX(16 pts) Speed stat?
« on: December 28, 2008, 05:17:42 pm »
I'm on my second play through CT:DS, my characters are now at lvl 76-83 and all have ** Speed Stat(Thank you Black Omen & Ayla!). I've read some posts in this forum and read FAQs, some people are talking about a Angel's Tiara and how great of a helmet it is. It apparently gives status immunity & Auto-Haste. My question is does having Haste on a character with ** Speed Stat make any difference at all? Because I haven't seen it.  :(

Haste means your Wait meter fills faster. If Speed is the same thing, then Angel's Tiara is useless, as you assume.

Haste makes your turn come faster, even with ** speed.  Test it against Lavos II, you can see the difference.

Yeah, the effect is obviously, although, not that much if your opponet is too slow...
You can use 2 16-pts characters, give one of them a haste helm and see.

If I remember correctly, Haste gives either a 33% or a 50% boost to Speed rating.

If 50% is correct, then a Hasted character with 11 Speed should have the Wait gauge fill at nearly the same rate as someone with a 16 Speed.  A 16 Speed Hasted character would have the equivalent of 24 Speed.

If 33% is correct, then a Hasted character with 12 Speed should have the Wait gauge fill at the same rate as someone with a 16 Speed.  A 16 Speed Hasted character would have the equivalent of 21.33 Speed.

If i remember right from my chrono play through (may be different than ds)  the haste status effect doesn't boost your speed, but rather reduces the wait time of that character.  Because of the wait time reduction, it stacks and is improved upon by having more speed, though factoring human reaction, you may only see a difference in having haste if you having active time set to 'wait'

Yes, Haste still makes a huge difference at max speed, but, to me the mechanics seemed to work a little differently than what the above people are describing.  I did a battle with all characters at max speed and one character with the Angel's Tiara.  What I experienced was that on the first turn of battle, all characters became "ready" at the exact same time, but on every turn after that, the one with the Tiara was always ready twice as fast.

The fact that all the characters were ready at once is immaterial...all it really means is that all characters have a speed rating much greater than any of the enemies in that particular battle.

I thought it was quite significant.  One would think that the hasted character would have been ready twice as fast from the get-go.

Haste just makes the ATB bar fill faster.

Yeah, Haste doesn't double Speed, it cuts wait time by 50%. (It says that in the description, I believe)

I tried it again, the bar does fill up much faster when 1 or 2 of your characters are under Haste. But when all 3 of them are under it's influence, the bar just fills up at a normal speed, but the enemies seem to attack less often. It's more like all enemies have slow on them rather than everyone have Haste.

I think about it and it may not be that weird, the bar would just be too fast for the player, since all 3 of them would be going fast and the player would waste some oppurtunities for attacks. So it would make sense to slow the bar down if all characters are under Haste and only make the monsters attack slower so that the player can keep up. :) Get it?

Either that, or because the PCs are experiencing time at a slower rate than the monsters, said monsters appear to be moving slower.
