Can't stay logged in!
« on: December 12, 2008, 05:16:06 pm »
Gah! This morning, I realized that the month-long stay logged in thing had worn out. So I logged in and set it to FOREVER.

Apparently forever is only until 1:00 in the afternoon the same day.

So I set it to FOREVER again and then I come back at four. I log in again, leave for a while, and then come back to have to log in. AGAIN.

Help? I'm having enough trouble remembering my passwords! Plus, it wastes valuable time.

Are you or anyone who might be sharing the computer clearing your Internet cookies? That'll do it for sure.

Only my mother and myself use this computer. I know how to do that; my mom doesn't. Also, it happens if I just close the window for a minute, no one uses the compie, and I come back, remembering I wanted to do something.

Hmm...what browser are you using? Maybe you accidentally turned off the "Accept Cookies" option, although that seems kind of doubtful. Try deleting the cookie for the Compendium and then re-log in and reselect the "Stay Logged In" option. If that doesn't work, then somethin' screwy's going on.

I'm using FireFox. I don't know what that button is and I doubt my mother would have hit it either.

Clear all your cookies once, then log in. I have an idea of what's causing the problem, so let me know if that doesn't work, and I'll try changing it.

I just did that. I exited out of this as normal, then came back. I had to log back in.

I did something else.

Clear your cookies again (if you don't want to clear everything with Tools->Clear Private Data, you can also use the Show Cookies dialog accessible in the Preferences dialog Privacy panel). Log back in again. See if you have to log back in anymore after that.

Well, I cleared the cookies again, logged in, checked, 'Stay Logged In', then went about my business. I then left and walked to the local K-Mart after closing the window I was using. I come back and it says, 'Welcome, guest. Please log in or register.'

There's nothing I can do for you then. But wait, K-Mart's still in business?

Access your internet options, click on the "Privacy" tab, and make sure you're accepting all cookies.

What virus scan are you using? My virus scan seems to destroy some of my cookies, leaving me with delayed pages.

Wikipedia for example is always stuck on the last time I accessed it. So if I checked it at 12 AM and exit out and check it at 9 AM, it's still at 12 until I do a hard refresh.

I know it's my virus scan because it didn't do this until I got it.

I use CA Security Center, just to let you know.

We use AdAware, but my mom hasn't run it recently.

Indeed it is. I haven't heard anything about K-Mart going out of business.
