Song Mashups
« on: November 27, 2008, 07:54:14 pm »
So one of my good friends introduced me to the art of song mashups. They're probably some of the most awesome things I've ever heard. These past two days I've been searching all over youtube for them. There are only two I've seen that I've REALLY enjoyed though. Also, I'm pretty sure the first ones been posted here. XD

Mashups can be damn awesome, and that first video is definitely testament to it--I really wished more fellas would follow the footsteps of Mathew and mashup some of the more epic RPG themes, as opposed to remixing and sampling.

Anyhow, good vids, good songs. I've always been partial to this one.

They were both amazing actually.  I loved the 2nd one quite a bit.  I wish the first one was in one of the FF games though, would totally use that for an epic battle theme.

It's a shame the guy who made the Zero-Lavos mix took down his first version. I liked it better.

I think he was going for a bigger SNES vibe when he redid it, stylistically this one sounds like it could've been straight off the SNES.

A mashup of the final battle themes from, say, FFV and FFIX would be pretty awesome.

I saw a video a while back that combined the normal and guitar versions of the battle themes from Baten Kaitos and Baten Kaitos Origins together.

Ah, found 'em!

Baten Kaitos Origins - The Valedictory Elegy

Mash up of the same song. Will outline my idea in steps.

1. Take the following versions of Nobuo Uematsu's "One-Winged Angel" : Original from FF7; Kingdom Hearts 1; Kingdom Hearts 2.

2. Fuse the one from KH1 and the one from KH2 into one mix.

3. Mash the result up with the original version from FF7.

Someone give this a shot and gimme the results (in MP3 if possible). Vids will be GRUDGINGLY accepted.

Here's a whole grouping of Chrono Trigger ones done by someone(s) named "Compromised"...

Quote from: Compendium Encyclopedia
Chrono Trigger Mixtape

The Chrono Trigger Mixtape is a blend of modern rap tracks on modified Chrono Trigger music and beats. A quick mashup, it's merely a hobby of compromised, the group behind it. The resulting songs are actually fun to listen to, and some good beats are laid down.

    * The Chrono Trigger Mixtape site is down. Download all three releases here.

Volume 1

   1. 50 Cent - Disco Inferno (Gato's Theme)
   2. Young Jeezy feat. Mannie Fresh - And then What (Wind Scene)
   3. Ray Cash - Sex Appeal (Secret of the Forest)
   4. Ciara feat. Missy Elliott - 1, 2 Step (The Kingdom Trial)
   5. David Banner - Play (The Day the World Revived)
   6. Common - Corners (Schala's Theme)
   7. Kanye West feat. Talib Kweli, Common - Get 'em High (At the Bottom of Night)
   8. Cassidy - I'm a Hustla (Underground Sewer)
   9. Kelis - Milkshake (Prod. by JC) (Burn! Bobonga!)
  10. EPMD - Strictly Business (Bonus Cut) (Corridors of Time)

They go from good to iffy as I recall...I remember enjoying the Cassidy & EPMD ones quite a bit...I haven't listened to any of them in quite a while...

Chrono Trigger mixed with Rap...was really odd.  They fit the beat, that was for sure.

The Milkshake one made me giggle beyond control though.  It worked hilariously well.

I guess it could be a mashup...something I began work on a few years ago was some writing and sampling with Ice Cube's "War & Peace" and the Weekend Players' "Jericho"

I'll have to finish it and post it in some manner.  Also have a remix I've been working on.  I started it on piano but have since moved and have no piano or keyboard or any way of recording them, so I've been plugging the notes into Reason manually.  Since doing that, I've added other instruments and am debating with some drums for this one.  Again I will make noise and flail madly when released.  Jay Z's 99 Problems with the original 99 Red Balloons was a good mash I heard on the radio a while back.
