Changing dialogue in CT (Snes)
« on: November 30, 2008, 03:37:01 pm »
How is it done? With TF or something? And how does that work? Is it easy?

I'd like to translate the Snes rom to my native language, but I don't know how. I don't know if it's easy or hard, so I hope someone can enlighten me.

You change dialog through the event editor. When you select a dialog/choice command, you can edit that particular dialog.

Months ago I tried to change some text, but when I run the ROM the game had no text at all!
O_o
Why is that? And how can I fix it?
Sorry for going Off Topic, but I guess this should help Dark Serge as well...

Yeah problem being it asks for some kind of packet number and I have no idea what the numbers are for all dialogue

Just open up the "Locations" section and find the game location/map with the dialog you want to edit.

You mean I gotta search my way through all that code and whatever for the pieces that are dialogue?

Jeez, why didn't somebody just make a simple text editor... Oh well, guess that's tip no. 01 for when people are gonna hack CT DS

I hear that, Dark. Someone needs to make a general text editor that can be used to change what is said in any game at any time.

There is one. It can't add NEW dialog though.

But what language is your native one anyway?

It's dutch (I'm from the Netherlands), probably one of the tiniest countries on mother Earth, so I'm not surprised if you don't understand a word of the language.

I was thinking of making Chrono talk, but maybe I can squeeze in some language by shortening other character's lines? Hmmm anyway I'll look into it.

When I try to open the rom it says this rom doesn't have a header.... Uhhhh... O...k... And a header is...?

That's why Temporal Flux is better.  It can edit it without the header.

A header is just a pointless waste of I think 256 bytes.  It's just at the beginning of the rom for no reason really.

Just for the record, I know a Dutch guy. Know the name Michael Chandra? He's a member of GamePolitics.

In any case, I'm looking forward to a talking Crono (Too used to calling him that to call him "Chrono") in this. :D

Well I wouldn't like to say that since with TF I have to search through all kinds of weird code I don't understand and have no interest in in order to find the tiny tidbits of text.

And the text editor can't edit roms with a header. That's just perfect.

I'm gonna get some shuteye. It's already past midnight here after all.

I've read that NSRT can add a header. Or you could stick 0x200 bytes (512 in decimal) before the ROM using a hex editor.

I think it's pretty obvious where the dialog is, since it shows the text of the dialog in the event editor.

Also, Temporal Flux has a "Translation Project" feature. It blanks out all the dialog, then lets you find the next untranslated dialog.
