Strange Boss Battle at the bottom of Mt Woe, "Break the Seal"
« on: September 24, 2008, 07:48:44 pm »
Will someone tell me why during the battle right outside of Earthbound village that you can't attack the Mud Imp unless you destroy the two beasts first?  Most attacks I can't damage above 100pts ,  The highest attack only does about 180pts or so.   Once beasts destoryed defense for Imp goes down and he becomes like pussy cat.

I just destroyed the heck out of Golem and got kicked out of Zeal so I went right away heading towards the beast's nest,  I hope that is the right thing to do in the first place.

Current level status:
Chrono Level 32    Max HP 583
Current HP  528 out of 583.

Robo Level 32:    Max HP 645
                           Current 518

Frog  Level 30:      Max HP  514
                          Current 514 out of 514.
I better heal em up.

Because their counters involve the Imp, I guess...? Also, I think you can Charm a Mermaid Cap from the blue one...I may be thinking of something else around there though...

Thanks but there is one imp and a orange beat and a blue beast.    I just don't understand why that Mud Imp can't be destroyed first then the battle won't be as frustrating.   That is one flaw in the game that needs to be changed with a fan-made version.

I read in RPG clascis that I can charge the 'sealed' chests up so I am going to do that then head for Mt Woe.....Woe is me.

Really? Cause i actually thought that too, at first that was... While replaying the game again I became extremely determined to take ou that punk(who attacks you, why?) and I beat him first(after many many tries). All that happens is the beasts die too, but now you have more experience points.

How is a challenging battle a flaw...?

There is a difference between a challenging battle and a ridiculous one okay and the Mud Imp byitself falls into the latter.    Like I said I could not get above 100pts of damage with most attacks and definite not above 150 for Triple Raid, Spiral.etc

On the other hand the  beasts provide good challenges because I had to use Triple Raid a bunch of times  4 or 5 and a few physical attacks.   But that Mud imp was plain stupid and insane.   He didn't need to be there and nothing would have changed except making it less frustrating for the game-player and it will stll be a healthy challenge.

The point of a game is to make it challenging but not ridiculessly frustrating,  You seem to think blur the too but I am not surprised as most casual gamers fall for it.

Going to take a wild stab here and say that you think the battle against Dark Tyrano when you have to kill Azala first is "ridiculous"...

Its just a part of the game.  Chill.

ISn't the Mud Imp usually suppossed to run away anyway?
Also, he is kinda needed. Otherwise you'd just walk right past the beasts, he's the little sunnuva gun that wakes them up.

I think it's supposed to be, like, the guardian of Mt. Woe (or at least the chain up to Mt. Woe)...and the other two are like its guard dogs...?

Yeah, seriously what's so hard about defeating the Beasts first and then defeating the Imp later?  Unless you're seriously underlevelled or something (which you aren't), this battle shouldn't be that bad...I had more trouble fighting Giga Gaia than these guys...

Bring in hard hitting magic users for this battle.  It will help a bit.

they made it that way on purpose....in fact IIRC the AI of the beasts (by default) kills the game w/o the mud imp there.  When you attack them it triggers the counter (which needs the mud imp) so if he's not there game crashes.

i think they run away after that as well.....can't remember.

Kill beasts and Mud Imp is there but more often than not he runs away. When you kill the mud imp and there are still beasts alive, those beasts will die instantly.

I never knew he could run away...>_> Why wouldn't you all-out blitz the little bastard after all of those counters!?

if you're underleveled, even "all out blitzing" might not kill it before it runs away...at least that was how it was when i first played it...which meant I had A LOT of leveling up to do on Mt. Woe...
