It has begun.

This thread nominally encompasses anything related to the 2008 Sumer Olympics.

There more coverage of protests than the olympics themselves.

On a weird note, We(America) come in with 647 people and our flag carrier is from Sudan, and Sudan itself has barely anyone. WTF!?

This is why we always come home with so many medals, we have enough people that we're bound to get a medal in each competition.

If everything was more equal, maybe the Olympics wouldn't suck, now it's just "Look at us Americans! We have so many medals! Woo woo!"

It needs to be less about happy tra-la-la dreams of world piece. If it was just 10 athletes from each country competing, it would be amazing to watch.

Two Americans got killed by a 47-year-old Chinese man.

EDIT: Only one was killed.  The other was just wounded.

Presumably with fewer events? I think that would lack the grand scale of the Olympics as they are now.

On a weird note, We(America) come in with 647 people and our flag carrier is from Sudan, and Sudan itself has barely anyone. WTF!?

Well, it would seem that Sudan was unable to field a very good team for whatever reason. Can you not think of any reasons for that?

This is why we always come home with so many medals, we have enough people that we're bound to get a medal in each competition.

By your reasoning, India should have achieved way more medals than that.

If everything was more equal, maybe the Olympics wouldn't suck, now it's just "Look at us Americans! We have so many medals! Woo woo!"

It seems that China is also regarded as having a good chance of winning.

Yes fewer events, like dropping all the team one like volleyball and hockey. It would be much grander. Right now its a dull  commercialized event of a hand full of countries, for reasons stated by Nightmare. Now if it was purely a contest of the greatest athletes of each country it would be amazing to watch. I've watch them in the past but now find the whole thing faux-contest.

Because we took their people from them? No, it couldn't be because of all that slaughtering in Africa, nah, we're taking their best players, that's it, it has nothing to do with the senseless tribal violence.

This is why we always come home with so many medals, we have enough people that we're bound to get a medal in each competition.

Did we take any of their players this year?

If everything was more equal, maybe the Olympics wouldn't suck, now it's just "Look at us Americans! We have so many medals! Woo woo!"

It seems that China is also regarded as having a good chance of winning.

Why? Because they threaten their players with death threats? Maybe that's what we need to do.

If only the cast of the Mario Bros. and Sonic the hedgehog would compete in olympic events against each other . . .
