CG Frog - WIP
« on: July 12, 2008, 09:58:17 pm »
Against popular demand/feedback i decided to make my own 3d/cg frog because I don't really like any of the 3d frogs i have seen that have already been made.  Got a good start today, and i think i made a good base to work up from.

Thanks to the chrono trigger resurrection team for reference (http://www.opcoder.com/projects/chrono/FrogConcept.jpg).

As with the last two, the plan is to complete the character and then implement it in a scene for the final piece. I just moved and dont have internet where i live anymore, so ill just post updates mainly with major progress. If you see something you find hideous with anything on the character, please let me know. Thanks.

Did a lot more on frog, a lot of prelim texturing out of the way along with a lot more modeling. All the frog reference/game art points to this flawless, smooth, shiny character (skin and armor), but my vision of the character is a more beat up, wisened, dirty one. So I roughed up his skin a bit to look more like an actual frog/toad and scuffed his armor. Anyway, a lot more to do, but here's the latest, I hope you like it:

Oh yea, the lighting is a test lighting solution also.

Holy shnikeys. That may be one of the best interpretations of Frog I have ever seen.  And I'm not shnikeying you!

IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL...

Thanks man, i appreciate your compliments. Finished his little sack, added some more experimental details that aren't in the reference, and finished the sheath.  Next on the list is add the wrinkles to the pants and make the sword. I'll post the update tomorrow.

Latest:

Let me know if that chain on his armor should stay. Quickly made the sword/sheath as well.

Yeah, I don't see the point of the added chain, really...Otherwise, very cool, but I can't help but think that the proportions seem...off. It might just be because of seeing Frog in 3D, but he looks too...idk...short? stunted? (EDIT: Maybe the head seems too big?) And his gloves & boots weren't blue, I don't think, but a dark green...and his eyes weren't cat-slits either.

Nope they're blue, I remember from his victory pose.

Yeah, you're right...weird, I was looking at the image in my CT instruction booklet and I swear it looks dark green...maybe it's my lighting here, I guess...V_V

Well, um...the top part of the boot is yellow! :)

It looks better with the chain to be honest.  It doesn't make it look as bland.  Very nice job ^^

Yeah, it looks better with the chain.

And personally, I love the eyes.  I mean, Frog's pupil's aren't quite slits like you used, Straafe, but they're also not round like a human's pupil.  Anyone who is curious can look and see what Frog's eyes look like on the above art Translanka posted.  However, I should note, I LOVE the eyes as is.  Seriously.  That's what gets me about this piece: the face.  The skin and eyes look so amazingly realistic.
