Using a Mac
« on: July 07, 2008, 11:45:58 pm »
I'm using a Mac with the program SNES9X.  I'd like to see this retranslation, but I'm not sure how to go about it...  Does anyone have some advice for me?  (Aside from "get a PC;" heard that enough)

What exactly is the trouble you're having (e.g patching, running it)

Well, the "Read Me" file says that I need to "apply" the IPS patch with some program... but I don't know where to find one, or which one to use if there are a few types.

EDIT: OK, I just downloaded UIPS and tried applying the patch to my .smc file, but now all I get is a black screen.  What am I doing wrong?

Try the other patch that you didn't apply.

SNES9x may turn to black when you try to reach the Blackbird Wing, though...

ker-plop, have you tried ripping the header from your ROM and using the unheadered patch yet? I've always had greater success with unheadered patches for some reason.

How do you "rip a header?"

Remove the first 0x200 bytes from the ROM.

You can also open it with Temporal Flux, although on a Mac...hm...and then SNESTool is out since it's a DOS program...

Yeah, I guess you can just use a hex editor or a really good text editor that can display things in hex to delete the first 0x200.

If that's really discouraging, I'm sure someone is willing to PM you to arrange for a transfer of a "full package"...maybe...

Yeah, who would be a good person to ask about that?

If I still had a Mac, I'd write up a simple drag and drop affair to remove the ROM's header.

If you're using an Intel mac, give ZSNES a try. You can find a port here: http://hectorchu.googlepages.com/

Well, I'm not... and I'm no programmer, either.  I just want to play it for the story.

EDIT: I've tried both the headered and unheadered patches and the newer version of SNES9X, and nothing is working.  Who would be willing to send me an already-modified ROM (with the newest version of the translation, of course)?
