The Compendium is so vast that it's easy to overlook things like that, thanks Patchy.
Well, news on the experiment.
What was ripped using PsxMC v3.23:
- Chrono Trigger from Final Fantasy Chronicles
- Chrono Trigger japanese PSX version
Results:
- FFC disc spit up 352 MB in 12 videos, the ending video and the extra fall of Guardia video are repeated, duplicates adding english subtitles.
- Japanese disc also spit up 352 MB in 12 videos, the same ones are repeated, only with japanese subtitles. For some eerie reason, PsxMC seemed to encode my japanese disc in slightly less pixelated quality.
Problems:
- PsxMC v3.23 has kinda poor encoding. Makes files too heavy (not so important) and makes it on very small base resolution, pixelating the videos when stretching them up. I'm comparing the stretch to how pixelated the videos look in my regular TV. One could use a better encoding.
Pictures:
-The ripped quality works fairly good for creating smaller imagery such as avatars, signatures, website portraits, etc:
- On stretched images it looks fairly well, but still pixelated (mostly on dark colors). I stretched the video maybe a little too much just to make it more obvious. This is to illustrate the image does look more pixelated compared to when playing the game for real, meaning the encoding could be better. Click:
