Alright Kiddies, let a pro show you how its done.
« on: May 14, 2008, 12:12:14 am »
Alright, a while back I did a CC wallpaper concept. I never completed it, but It did end up making my Zeal islands painting possible.
anyways I always felt kinda bad for never finishing it. So I decided to try again after all this time.

so after reclaiming the old sketch from my DA site grey-the-angel.deviantart.com
I decided to make a little as I go along thingie.

Alright, to start things off, I turned the whole thing blue, so I could tell the difference between my sketch and my inking. I also made the fixes to the image necessary: her dagger was fixed, her shirt loosed up a little, and I added in the one thing I always seem to forget: that goddamn necklace.

After a couple minutes of thinking it over, I also fixed her left hand, which seemed to bother the hell out of me

Alright so all thats done with. Time for the long, boring task of slowing inking this sum bitch using ol' pen tool.
It litterally took about 2 days. I don't even know why.

Alright meow, meow that all done with, time to colorize this bad bitch.

Coloring is fairly simple in principle, fairly difficult to actually do without fucking up. basically, look at books and see where muscle would affect basic shapes.
First things first, I set a light skintone (Kid's fairly pale if I recall correctly) and a basic overtone. This isn't the only two colors I'm using, only the most basic for the skins.

After all setting the tone, I decided I didn't like how light kid was, so I tamped with the tint a couple of times.
darken her little by little:

and so little by little, Kid start gaining life.

Thanks for letting us in on the artistic process, grey. My only complaint is that you took Bleak out of the background. That character is like Vivi combined with Chuck Norris, which is so awesome it might just cause the universe to implode.

picking up where I left off: I worked on the legs a little, and revamped her chest are. After doing all, I started to work on her clothing and necklace.  Its a slow process, but its coming together nicely.

I just realized I don't have a background image for this pic.
anyways, I've forgotten to save all my coloring up till now so I'm posting my most recent update. While prepareing for the convention in San Jose, I manage to get in some coloring and decided to make the best of what I could. I started on her shirt, where one guy complain " somewhere... down the line, she lost her boobs.... that saddens me." so that was an easy gray scale coloring. if you notice, everything is truly just 3 colors with a little white added into everything to show the light. I'm not being overly abmitious with my coloring: I don't have that much experiance or training with photo shop, so I'm just doing what I can. I alway started the process of her hair, which is quite vexing really, considering I have man possible ways to go. I also edited up her stomach a little and I'm not basically done with her skin.

thought, don't put random tutorials in a thread that isn't yours. it's rude.

Anyways, I finished her over the convention weekend, now to come up with a suitable background and finish the whole project. all of the colors used are seen to the left, and I did notice her neck was low on her body, so there's an edited version of this with her neck shortened a bit, but I'm using that version to complete the project.

As I had asked in that post, "do you mind if I chime in with a few links [...]?" You apparently do mind, so I've removed them, simple as that. You had but to ask. I was only trying to be helpful and facilitate your stated goal (showing people how "it" is done). I am sorry for any rudeness you perceived in the action; such was not intended.

Great work. I would change the way her hair looks, but either than that, it's great. :)
