"The Kite Runner"
« on: May 10, 2008, 02:30:54 pm »
If you haven't seen this movie yet, I strongly urge you to at least rent it. I watched it last night and I thought it would be a long, drawn out moring film, but it turned out to be an exteremely touching true story which I'm sure will remain on my favorite list for quite some time.

Has anyone else seen it?

That's the one about Afghanistan, right? I hear there's scenes of sexual abuse in it, which I'd just get too depressed about. Maybe I'll catch it sometime though.

Yeah, in somewhat of a prologue, the main character's best friend gets raped by a group of older boys who hate the Hazara religion. It's exteremely sad, really, but it's a very good movie either way.

Cool. I should probably read it, too.

A friend of mine sitting next to me on the plane back from Korea was reading one, and she let me read it while she was asleep. I didn't finish it, but it reads really well.

Saw the movie. Was ok, but emotional scenes were a bit forced, and character development wasn't done well (I felt no connection with any of the characters). But that might be because I saw it with my school, and we're a rowdy, insensitive bunch of people (us being yelled at after the movie was the best part).
