CT Overworld Location Name Comparison
« on: December 30, 2004, 10:40:40 am »
With the help of some PAR codes I made, I went through all the overworld location names in the prerelease and compared it to the final version.  No unused names that weren't in the final were found.  However, there were some differences in existing names:

Hopefully someone can translate those.

Other differences:
-----
There is no Porre/Medina/Choras/Dorino Inn names, they all use the 0C value above (which is probably some general word for Inn)

Other missing names:
Northern Ruins (it is always Hero's Grave)
Laruba Ruins
Lair Ruins

Zeality, if he can't get them, pass these on:

06 Seabird Inn (I like it better with a name like this)
0C Traveler's Hotel
13 Western Mountain Cave
16 (The original is closer; the Jp version uses 'light' instead of 'Sun')
1E Desert Cave (with 'doukutsu' in hiragana for some reason)
34 Village Tent (with the village unnamed; Ioka Village Tent in J version)
41 Sealed Palace; North Sealed Palace in the J version
42 Earthburrow Cave; "Earthbound Ones' Cave" in the J version
45 is 'remaining village' in both but expressed different ways

Really not all that different, and the English translations are near enough to spot-on as we could want.

Speaking of overworld names, has anyone figured out what locations Breakwave Pt., Gobb's House, and Robotvillage were going to be used for? I've seen these names pop up before, but don't really have any information on them.

Wild guesses here:

Breakwave Pt.  may have been an alternate/orginal/discarded name for the Northern Cape in post-Zeal 12000 BC

Gobb's House coule be the house in Medina Village, 1000 AD, where the gate's located.  It's just called "Residence" in the final, if I recall correctly.

And isn't there an extra area in the prerelease in 2300 AD, which could be the Robot Village?  If not, it could have been a placeholder name for the Geno Dome.

Breakwave Pt. sounds like it could be the name of the little area where the Earthbound guy sees the tidal wave come and says, "Tidal Wave!" or whatever...

And the Robot Village could be for the futuristic place that Robo can pop out at...

I always thought that Breakwave Pt. was just an alternate name for the
Vortex Pt. near Lucca's House. Gobb's House sounds very much like
the house in Medina with the Gate. And Robot Village could have been
the strange colliseum place in the pre-release.

ANd wait, isn't Geno Dome in the pre-release though? So how can it
be a placeholder name? Square most likely made the name and the
overworld graphic but then cut the idea because it didn't fit in with the
story or watever. They did that with the Singing Mountain if I remember
correctly. But in this case, Square must have cut it early on, as there is
no actual inside graphics (opposed to the Singing Mtn. has).
