Forum Search Error
« on: May 03, 2008, 03:46:26 pm »
I tried to do a search on the forum and got the following error:

Quote
Database Error

Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator.

I tried several times with various topics and got the same result. Since I am new to the site I am not sure if the search ever worked properly in the first place.

Is this an actual error that needs to be fixed, or is it a function of the forum that has not been incorporated yet?

I've been getting it too. I tried sending a PM to Ramsus on Thursday.

I'll just restore the database later. For the time being, try using google with site:chronocompendium.com in the search terms.

Thanks, the google search method seems to be working for now while the database is down.

Does anyone know if there is a command that can be entered with a google search to display results in chronological order instead of by the number of hits?

There's an "advanced search" option in Google, but it only allows you to list results within the past 24 hours or within a certain number of days as opposed to ranking all the results by date. I think...

Yeah, you are right. It just limits the results to a certain time frame but still lists them in order by the number of hits.

Using this method made me realise just how long ago a lot of these threads stopped. I did not notice a lot of dates when I started reading topics posted here but I definitely notice them now.

I trust Ramsus is working on it, the order is back to normal.

Fixing forum search on a video game fan site kind of falls low on my list of priorities -- as it should, considering the nature of the work that I do.
