what does this text means to the game?

What was the start of all this?
When did the cogs of fate begin to turn?
Perhaps it is impossible to grasp that answer now,

But for a certianty, back then
we loved so many yet hated so much
we hurt others and were hurt ourselves.

Yet even then we ran like the wind
whilst our laughter echoed
under cerulean skies....

Hm, now I'm starting to wonder. Schala wrote these words of course, but was it Schala Schala, or Kid Schala? What the intro lines refer to may depend to some degree on the persona who penned them.

Well, it's either Schala, or both of them...and I still believe that even if Schala were to have absorbed her Kid half, she'd still be dominant.

I think the topic line must be a reference to how, while there were tons of characters meant to be loved, the hate for certain ones was much, much stronger.

Or it's generic memory speech.

It means nothing. It's just poetic piddle meant to capture the interest of a certain type of gamer.

Well, I guess it can be a lot of things if you like, and take the time to read.

In practical world it's a sort of poethical prologue (I like it, btw), a way to inmerse you in a few lines... into the world of the game, and the atmosphere should have.
Then... if you become a little more paranoiac... you can think that it holds some kind of "introductional" meaning behind all that words.

The first lines of the poem, prologue, verse... whatever, tell of the uncertain past.
We know nothing or little between the Trigger and Cross game, except for some key events, such as Guardia fall, character fates... etc.
The third and fourth lines... well, they could refer to some kind of impossibility of time travelling or dimensional, probably because of the Ideal Timeline (that means that time was finally healed from it's scars).

The next lines could tell you about the normal setting of relations in a game, because you can feel all you want towards a certain enemy... or character. And your actions surely have some consequence in all the world.
Then the last part of the text, told you about the ability to pick your own destiny inside the game, by choosing your own course of action... even when a plot exist and must be followed.

But that's just a bunch of silly analisis.. from me.
So... well... as you see... it's all up to how you see it.

possibly this is someone (shala) reminiscing, wondering when the whole crono series began. wondering why this all happened like it did. think, if Lavos had gone to some other planet, then nothing would have happened. so why did fate have all this happen?

shala, possibly pondering on how complicated this whole series has been, how long this has been going, and how it is indeed "impossible to grasp". Lavos came to earth in 65,000,000 b.c., correct? and it ends...well, depends on what dimension you're in. so this has been going on for millions of years...

hmm, possibly talking about a time of despair when humanity indeed was "hurting others and were hurt ourselves" and "hated so much".

i believe this is talking about how humanity was still able to act free, "ran like the wind", and happy "whilst our laughter" through our times of hate and despair.

so possibly this is going through the whole history of the Lavos Chronicles(nice name, eh? lol) and Shala is reminiscing.

chronos_cat basically hit the nail on the head.

I think that, from the Schala persona:
We loved so many: she loved the people always, the earthbound ones, Janus, the philosophers, we don't know if she despised her mother, but she was HURT by her and hurt others by summoning Lavos. The 'We' may also denote the heroes, they loved and fought for the Planet, but also hated their enemies, Lucca says something like it in Chrono Cross, they killed a whole future while saving other.

From the Kid persona:
It's very easy to relate it with the racism problems between humans and demi-humans, but deeper than that: between humans and dragonians, Dinopolis VS Chronopolis, why must one species kill other in order to survive? etc.

But amidst that love, hate, suffer, hurting, they found moments of laughter. Making the "adventure" worth.
