New Techs
« on: September 08, 2007, 11:37:02 pm »
I was wondering if we have the ability to alter character Techs and Combos.

My biggest beef is with Magus.  I actually don't end up using him because he's so incompatible with the rest of the party and completely worthless when you have Crono, who is basically indispensable since he is a requirement for all normal Triple Techs and has some of the best Double Techs in the game.

My biggest idea was allowing Magus to fill in for the rank 2 elemental attacks.  Basically, at any point where you can use Fire 2, Ice 2, and Lightning 2, Magus should be able to fill that gap.  Also, I was thinking of a combo involving Robo and Magus.  Basically, Magus's Dark Bomb powers Robo's Laser Spin and he fires off a line-based attack (like Slash) at the enemy.

Granted, I know that we may not be able to pull this off.  I haven't seen much in Temporal Flux outside of maps, locations, and events, but this would really bring a new element to the game...  Especially if we could bring in new techs.....

Well, I sorta answered my own question...

I found a way to add new techs into the database (I have no clue what sort of corruption that would cause) but I don't know if it's possible to freely edit these abilities.

Sweet. Though, I'd wait until Gieger can add Tech editing to TF. (It'll happen, just takes him time to be able to work on TF)

However, I DEFINATELY want Magus to have more duals and triples (Fire2, etc) as well as some new things.. Like
Dark Bomb + Sword = Dark Sword (for Crono) or Dark Matter + Flare = Shadow Flare OR my personal favorite... Dark Matter + Lumunair = Ultima

Yeah, it doesn't seem like Tech editting is that much of a stretch.  It's nothing more than an event call within a battle basically, right?

That's the way I figure it. All the information for a tech editor is there, now it just comes down to Geiger (or someone else, but preferebly Geiger) to code one. I typically don't trust any editor that isn't compatable with Temporal Flux (with the exception of the CTEC editor but that only has stat and item editing for now aswell with the edition of it's creator vanishing)

Here's what I had in mind. (Eventually when we get as far as doing techs and items)

Dark Bomb + Sword = Dark Sword (for Crono)
Dark Matter + Flare = Shadow Flare
Dark Matter + Lumunair = Ultima

Ice2 + Ice2 = Blizzard (Marle and Magus)

Weapons techs: (techs's attached to a weapon)
Atom Edge (9999 dmg always except to ethereal)

Bolt Sword (will appear MUCH later in the game - probably Zeal, will cast random bolt)
Tsunami (will eventually have Waterwave cast randomly!)

You know, as neat as the Atom Edge sounds, I'm not to keen on the idea of it.

I agree there is a need for new content end game weapons, but a weapon that does 9999 every time to every monster goes beyond the necessity.  For example,  what's the point of ever using techs if you can just do 9999 dmg by just attacking?  A sword with a super high crit rate is good (even if it does already exist in the Rainbow).

But isn't max damage every time a little... absurd?  I think it takes away from the game more than it adds to it.  But that's just my opinion.

Figure that it would take about 10 hours of battling to get the sword.
1 in 255 chance of appearing after battle in the Cleft of Dimensions.
...and of course enemies in the Cleft are COMPLETELY immune to any physical attack (with exception of Atom Edge).

(when it comes down to the sword doing almost 10k in damage and the BALANCE of a level ** normal enemy, you'll be *glad* when you get that Atom Edge sword )

Plus there will be a few other swords that are better than Rainbow.. (of course very hard to find).

Here's an example item:

Rising Sun, attack 250, crit 100, (deals about 3500 damage if Crono is **)
this is found in the Cleft of Dimensions (in a chest),
Desc - "The color of the red rising sun"

Just wanted to touch back on this:

My problem is that it reduce the game to simple repetitive attack, attack, attack, until the monster or whatever is dead.  I think we can find a better way to make Cleft of Dimensions challenging without also making it a monotonous repetition of attack commands.  I love Chrono Trigger because of the Techs.  This weapon makes them useless (except maybe Confuse or the random times when you want to hit every mob on the screen).

There should be ways of reaching the 9999 hit cap other than just using the attack command.  Otherwise, you'd basically have Crono attacking every round, then stacking the other two party slots with Marle and either Robo, Frog, or Alya for healing.  I'd probably take Robo simply because it'd be the only triple tech worth using at that point.

Worry not, the Atom Edge can be FOUND in the Cleft of Dimensions, but the area is strickly magical. Just like the Kult of Kefka's Tower in Final Fantasy 6. (yes, I am an evil bastard indeed!)
