I think of a machine as a device meant to aid the creators in a task, a machine is non-sentient. An android is a construct that is self aware,it may aid, hinder, or ignore its creator. this definition can be changed, as it is my interpretation of a machine.

Very well, then.

By definition, the human brain is a machine. Human consciousness, on the otherhand, is currently inexplicable and cannot be related to the brain at all via reasoning. Although the brain doesn't use 1s and 0s like the common computer, it does, however, use the same principle.

I would absolutely love to see that reasoning.

You'd love to see the reasoning to link the brain and consciousness together? I would, too, but it's not possible.

Amen to that.
Taking Intro to Philosophy really opened my eyes to a lot of things, and this concept was one of them.(Too bad I sucked at it...)

There is a strong correlation between physical effects on the brain and following effects on the conciousness of the person. Hell, there are strong correlations between specific physical effects on specific parts of the brain and effects on the conciousness. Observable reality links the brain and conciousness together.

Of course the consciousness is linked to the brain. It is, after all, a reflection of the brain's current state.

Furthermore, the brain is a machine...a sophisticated, naturally occurring organic computer, in fact. Really quite neat how it has managed to develop.

I agree with as stated above the consciousness is conneted with the brain.

What I do have a problem with is calling the brain a machine. If we say the brain is a machine then so is the body, as is all other creatures are machines, I would like to then ask what is not a machine?

Well, it's really a case of semantics. You have to remember that every word, every definition is relative, based purely upon human observation of the world, and as such we can really define anything to be anything.

So to answer your question, under this new definition we would be utilizing...actually, only a few things wouldn't qualify, since this definition is rather messy at best. Volcanoes could qualify under this!

Everything is. Everything can be used as a machine. Simple as that.
Look it up.

The scientific definition of a machine is any device that transmits or modifies energy. In common usage, the meaning is restricted to devices having rigid moving parts that perform or assist in performing some work. Machines normally require some energy source ("input") and always accomplish some sort of work. Devices with no rigid moving parts are commonly considered tools, or simply devices, not machines.

That's from Wikipedia

Three commonly used definitions with machine.

http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Machine

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Machine

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Machine

now is there a way to combined this definitions it to one Superdefinition if you will.
