Deafness
« on: June 24, 2007, 06:08:46 am »
I don't think this could have come at a worse time, I was talking to my boyfriend, then we hang up, I walk to the kitchen to get something to drink, and pop.

I'm now half deaf in my left ear ( In windows, I have my right ear set to 42%, and my left ear set to 100%, and it sounds balanced. ), and I couldn't possible have much of a worse day.

What if you were horribly mangled in a car accident?

I would be dead..

:P

After 3 hours, it still lasts, and after massaging my ear for about 10 minute, the "deafness" goes away.

You should go to the doctor if it doesn't clear up completely within the next day or so. I'd go even sooner, if possible. It sounds like a popped eardrum. Do you have an ear infection right now?

You know, sudden deafness can be life threatening(if you don't hear anything at all, that is), my german teacher had it while correcting our tests... but she is fine again now.
Just go to the Doc, can't make it any worse.

Like I said, Its only "half" deaf, and after massaging my ear for about 10 minutes, it goes away.

I think something got in my ear or something >.>

Very well might have perforated it. Mine has a 10% perforation causing approximately a 30dB loss, sometimes up to around 50-60dB with an ear infection.

What do you mean by '10% perforation'? The first tenth of the depth of the eardrum is perforated?

It's the amount of the surface that is perforated. It's called an "eardrum" because it acts just like a drum - it's a very thin membrane stretched over a hole that converts acoustics into 1s and 0s. Smaller perforations can be patched up like a hole in a bike tire, but bigger perforations require surgery to close it.

The brain is not a machine. Is doesn't think in binary, it has the capability to measure the strength of the impulse.

Curious. Is that how you would define a "machine," then?

I think of a machine as a device meant to aid the creators in a task, a machine is non-sentient. An android is a construct that is self aware,it may aid, hinder, or ignore its creator. this definition can be changed, as it is my interpretation of a machine.

Didn't sound sarcastic at all.
