Damn Microsoft Windows
« on: March 15, 2007, 08:12:25 am »
Apparently my HDD failed, but I cannot install XP as they key for it is outdated, and activation will cause windows to cease working after 30 days.
I could buy a new product key for $100 or so, but that would be investing into the fact I paid $100 for this copy of windows a year ago.

Now, I have Windows 2000 installed on a PC thats Vista - Ready..

god-damn you microsoft!

Microsoft programming consists of a large amount of highly talented foreigners, on hand as programmers. People (including me) give Microsoft a hard time, but they tackle problems of almost incomprehensible complexity, and do put out damn fine products. So whenever you use a Microsoft product and don't have to call tech support, there's a good chance that it works because of the call center guy's former neighbor.

Microsoft outsources their development too? I'm kind of surprised, considering how many domestic developers they already have. They're like some sort of monstrous ancient army, and now they have the captured barbarian hordes working for them too.

Which at least gives us reason to hope that they might expand so much that it's impossible for them to manage their empire, so they crumble due to attack from all directions. Or not.

Their empire may be in the latter stages of decline, but do you really look forwards to another dark age, one that will inevitably arise from the resulting power vacuum of this empire's fall?

Yes, yes I do. A world without Microsoft will be a world in which the common peoples are free to pursue their interests in tea, biscuits and sliced bread!

A nice thing to note, also, is that the analogy is painfully correct: If we assume Apple, a major competitor to MS were to become the dominant power, well- iPods are hardly cutting-edge compared to some other products on the market, are they?

I should have been more clear...they insource development. Microsoft is the country's largest sponsor of H1-B visas. They bring foreign developers to Redmond to work for them.

Wow. Just look what I set in motion about the foreigners working form Microsoft.... Oh well, it was going to come up sooner or later anyways. :D

Fine print: No disrespect given to foreigners of any kind.
