I want to craft my very own hand-bound journal. Then I can seem like an enigmatic magical science sage who notes his adventures and secrets of far-away lands in a top-secret book. No one must know!

P.S.: Only a few hours left before Christmas. Heh, I haven't thought of what to ask from Santa yet.

Happy holidays everyone!

On a relevant note, my present... was almost rejected...

Ghungroo* loved the portrait of Tintin and Snowy I painted for her. She admires Tintin, and aspires to be just like him. But when I surprised her with an offer to teach her Devnagiri and pay for her English lessons, she outright rejected me -- not because she thought little of my gifts, but because she doesn't like depending on people or being a burden to them. Amazing child she is: born with nothing (no money, no parents, no roof above her head) she still thinks she can give more to the world than take anything.

It wasn't until she realized that I'd be heartbroken this Christmas that she agreed to learn Devnagiri. She eventually understood why it meant so much to me, so really it was a Christmas gift to me rather than her. In any case, it simply brightened my day to see her enthusiastic about learning to read and write -- she wants to become an investigative journalist when she grows up.

And I wish her the best.

*Yeah, I hate the name too, especially with its connotation in India. Somehow, though sweet, the name sounds weak to me. I wanted to give her a better name, a stronger, more beautiful name, but... she was wiser.

You see that?

That is a 95 million year old dinosaur tooth.

Apparently one of my mother’s co-workers has a husband who goes on dinosaur-bone-digging adventures and has a tonne of teeth.  Said co-worker brought this up casually and said that my mother could buy some if she wanted to, but she (the co-worker) wasn’t sure if my siblings and I would want dinosaur teeth.

Of course, my mum knew that we would freak the fuck out if given a fucking dinosaur tooth for Christmas, so she bought three teeth and put them in our stockings.

Guys.

I got a dinosaur tooth for Christmas.  It’s from a spinosaurus and was found in Morocco.

I got a dinosaur tooth for Christmas.

There is something in my room right now that is almost 100 million years old.

My parents are amazing.

That sounds like a Christmas gift for the history books!

(No, that was not an attempt at a bad pun at all). That is seriously cool though. No matter which way you look at it -- you can count on it to last.

A Christmas present that transcends time, I'd say! Congrats! Not even the Doctor could give you something like that.  8)

Absolutely!  It's the best stocking stuffer I've ever received.

Oh pssssht, come on.  The Doctor can go anywhere, I'm sure he could get me a fresh dinosaur tooth if he wanted.  XD

I just realized that I have no idea where my own fossil dinosaur tooth is. (My excuse for not keeping track of it is that the novelty wore off after the first ten years or so—my parents bought it for me on a family trip to Drumheller, Alberta when I was a (dinosaur-obsessed) kid.)

I think, if I ever break my tooth, rather than giving it to the tooth fairy I'll preserve mine as a fossil. Then some timey wimey day in Andromeda a little kid of some mammal will be dancing in joy holding my tooth. After all, it's a magical tooth worth a million zeal!
