Ha ha ha ha haah!!

Just look at the percentage of scientists who identify themselves as Republican. It didn't used to be that way...

Though it was terribly painful, I love finding stuff I wrote back in 2003/2004. It is nice to see that I am not that person anymore, and it was a great motivator to attempt to improve myself more.

It was, of course, a bit of a blow to the ol' ego. People tend to remember the past fondly, so realizing that I wasn't actually like I thought I remembered I was, was... unpleasant. Still, onwards!

Two posts in a row? Guess I must be McDonald's, cause I'm loving it.

And by "it" I am currently referring to the chair of the academic department I work for. He runs a month seminar series trying to teach doctor-types how to have careers and various ins and outs of the dealeo. While he's teaching to medical peoples, a lot of what he says really has a lot of applicability. I occasionally sit in on these seminars and so I get to benefit from them.

For example, what is the difference between a career and a job? Essentially, mobility and ownership. A business owns a job and hires you to come to do it. You own your career and a business pays to to bring it to them.

For someone who desires to develop their own career, these are great things to have access to. So good times.

...

and free lunch.

I love the internet. It is a capitalist's dream.

Specifically, it is downright lovely to be able to order stuff that just isn't available in Texas. Miniture Apple Trees (perfect for appartment living) is just one example. My wife loves Coffee Bean tea, and the internet delivers (well, USPS delivers, but only because the internet tells them too).

Though this has also led to a proliferation of boxes and packaging materials, which is less than ideal.

EDIT: Speaking of which, I love that I found a recycle center near where I live. Take that!

Ah, The Coffee Bean! I used to go there all the time in my Angelino youth. I try to get back there at least once whenever I'm down for a visit, but it's not something that always works out.

I'm loving tonight's weather. There are unusual amounts of lightning in the area, along with scattered thundershowers that are mostly evaporating before they hit the ground, plenty of apocalyptic clouds, and the evening skies were red all the way across the horizon. I grilled chicken and ate outside.

Now I'd love a cup of coffee, but I'll have to muster the will to brew it.

Dangit J, you got to the thunder before I did!

Man, it's just so beautiful how the lightning illuminates the whole world for a brief second, imprinting that scene on your mind. It' been way too long since we've had rain.

I love the storms.

THey are a break from... "reality", or "normality" more precisely.

I love knitting. It's calm and relaxing, and a great way to pass time. Plus, it makes neat little gifts for friends or clothes for the winter :D
And on that subject, Caron Simply Soft is the best brand of yarn ever. It's really soft (derp) and very shiny.

Feeling melancholy. It's such a lovely emotion; not a place to live, certainly, but a wonderful place to visit.

I love human ingenuity, desire, curiosity, reason, and our ability to make such greatness as we will all get the chance to remember later this week:

The Deftones.

I just recently fell back in love with this band. I hope Chi comes out of his effing coma. They need a new album/tour.
