Hi, I just wondered if anybody around here might be able to help with this problem.  I want to retranslate a few scenes in Chrono Trigger from the original versions--I'm looking at Magus's dialogue right now and comparing and contrasting the tone/conversational style/level of slang and formality he uses in each version.  (In a nutshell, not what he says but how he says it.)  However, I haven't been able to find a copy of the Japanese Chrono Trigger script--screenthots can only take me so far, and I'm not technically knowledgeable enough to dump a copy from the ROM myself.  So could anybody around here maybe point me to a link or something?  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated (if you like, you can have a written credit on my Magus shrine when I'm finished with it).

I've been looking into it every now and then, but so far I haven't found any previous work. I think if anyone's going to do it, they'll have to start from scratch. A good place to start though would be poking around the same addresses as the text in the English version, since you might find something there.

I have no experience in hacking roms, so it'd be quite a project for me to take on. Maybe someone who does have some experience will notice this and give it a shot though. Anyway, good luck.

I heard that it was supposed to be Demiforce's (the man that brought us Radical Dreamers) next big project. Or was it Sky Render? I always get those two mixed up...

edit: damn, I totally didn't see the other thread first...

Er, just to clarify--I didn't mean I wanted to reinsert said scenes into the ROM (like I said, anything technical is unfortunately way, way beyond me), I just want the text so I can translate for reference purposes.  Thanks for the replies.

ETA: Sky Render was working on a retranslation, but I'm pretty sure they gave up.

In a recent conversation, go right corner confirmed that Chrono Trigger is on Sky Render's list, but that...it's a bit far down the queue. Of course, this information may be flawed, as it is secondary source.

The people at Zophar.net may have the medicine for this; I still have not contacted them about ripping the English script of Chrono Cross. The Compendium aims to complete a full Japanese translation -- someday, so ripping the script will inevitably be a task we have to face. If you locate any further information or have success with it, it would be very appreciated if you let us know the good knows.

I didn't  realize this was old until I saw my post...I was about to point to the other translation thread (this time I saw it, apparently)...

Also, isn't there a FAQ on this over at GameFAQs? I think I remember someone backing up somebody's work that had a buttload of info from an old thread in there...But hell if I know...Maybe I should go back to GameFAQs sometime...wonder what it's become...

I'm bettin' on 'still hell', but I bet it's more like 'even worse than hell'.

GameFAQs makes me sad ever since they went all corporate.  I used to frequent the CT section over there, but I rarely visit anymore.

I remember somebody was talking about making an FAQ out of Hyena's translation thread.  I don't know if they ever actually did.
