Buy Chrono Trigger. You can get it for the Playstation 1 in a pack called Final Fantasy Chronicles. It comes packaged with Final Fantasy 4.

It's about a boy who goes to the fair. Then things start to get interesting. Play the game, that's the best way to experience it.

After you've beaten Chrono Trigger, pick up Chrono Cross and play it. You'll understand how they are related once you do so.

Like I said, it's packaged with Final Fantasy V in a collection called Final Fantasy Chronicles. I assume you live in the United States. Any Best Buy, Game Stop, or Electronic Boutique should have a copy. Failing that, try online retailers.

Australia is Secam, USA is NTSC. Not to mention however Sony wanted to further divide things. Stick with whatever region you are from when getting games, unless you know your system can play imports. ProTip: If you don't know, the answer is that it can't.

sorry i dont mean large australian store outlets but rather online stores based in australia www.burn.com.au for example they stock games from japan, the US and australia.
i didnt mean places like k-mart,target,games wizards, eb, etc.
since aust based online stores i find ten to have a decent amount of games stocked (in various regions) than other ones iv'e found outside the country.
