I'm gonna bet $5 it'll remain in development hell forever, although Cameron wearing a Battle Angel t-shirt on the set of Avatar was certainly intriguing. Hm hm, just think: since Nobuteru Yuki did some character redesign work for the anime that image was lifted from, James Cameron is technically wearing a shirt imprinted with the work of the same person who drew Kid. Yow-zah. Though I'm not 100% sure. The style of that image seems much more like Yukito Kishiro's than Yuki's to me; Kishiro may have drawn art used for advertising the OVA back in the day or something.

I suspect there are huge problems with Battle Angel's script for one reason or another and that's hampering the project, but that's only the vibe I've gotten from following what little there is to follow on this project over the years.

Even if you're not into trance music, this is worth it just to see animated Magus art.

I just had a total nostalgia overload there. Great find! I wish it had controller support.

Yasunori Mitsuda interview; have we seen this one before? Wow, so we only ever hear 20% of what Mitsuda has in mind. Does he skim the cream of the crop, or are there great symphonies that he's been forced to hide from us for sheer lack of ROM and ISO space?

Whoa, dude, great find! :o

Just saw V for Vendetta today, and this guy V kinda reminds me of Z (Zeality), although V is more of a french-gentleman-badass type.

But both display one message; man (whether civilian or soldier) alone has the power to change the world!

I hated the film, but loved the comic mini series. Check it out if you haven't read it.

Any reason why it says "V for Vensetta" instead of "Vendetta" ?

Ah, thanks for those! I had read about this interview some time ago, but I'd never actually seen it for myself. Now I understand that nagging comment made by someone on the Compendium that Mitsuda felt as if today he couldn't match the power of his own work from that era. That was a misstatement of what he actually said, leaving out the fact that he feels this way because of changing in the culture of music rather than internal changes.

Listening to the medley as it was played in the background of this interview, I couldn't help but notice that Yasunori Mitsuda reminds me a lot of George Gershwin in that he is an outstanding melodist but a poor orchestrator. His orchestral arrangement of these songs reveals his lack of ability when it comes to awakening the full color of the orchestra. Gershwin, as you may have known (or not!), only wrote the piano version of his famous Rhapsody in Blue; the orchestral version was arranged by one of his colleagues, and that orchestral version is key to the piece's enduring success. In contrast with the orchestral Rhapsody, you can hear for yourself just how primitively Mitsuda approaches his own orchestration. Truly, orchestration is one of those things that is difficult to learn and more difficult still to master.

Whoa, MsBlack! That's an amazing use of Youtube's comment system on display there. This could revolutionize...something, I'm sure! I'm thinking longplays of multi-branching games could make use of this.
