http://weblogs.wpix.com/news/jimwatkins/2009/04/the_april_fools_funeral_who_re.htmlThis one has a bit of story to it. So, there's this internet group based in NY called Improv Everywhere. Basically, they do improv shows/pranks, film them, and put them up on the internet. For April Fool's, they posted a mission called "Best Funeral Ever". In their description, they gathered a bunch of improv agents, found a tiny funeral, and pretended to be mourners and friends of the deceased to the surprise of the family. The family was actually actors too, and there was no deceased. The whole funeral was fake. The real prank was to get readers to think IE had finally gone insane.
A local news station, CW11, took IE's video off of youtube and aired it as real news, thinking IE had crashed a real funeral. So, IE posts the CW11 segment of their (copyrighted) material on their website and youtube. CW11 files a copyright infringement claim to have the video taken off of youtube, and offers the rebuttal linked above in their news blog.
Now for the silly part: CW11 takes copyrighted material from youtube and airs it as new, without contacting the copyright holder or checking their facts. When the news segment is uploaded to youtube, they claim copyright infringement. So, who is really in the wrong here?
