A little something about Flea,Slash and Ozzie
« on: May 06, 2006, 11:33:28 am »
Were these names inspired by the rock stars.

Ozzie= Ozzy Osborn
Slash= Slash...the guitarist from Gun's N Roses and Velvet Revolver
Flea= Flea...the crazy ass bassist from The Red Hot Chili Peppers

It seems werid theyw ould use those names. Did they jsut randomly do that? Is it spoused to be like that? Is there another reason for those names?

There are tons of references to the real world in the Chrono series.

Those namings were no mistake. Ted Woolsey probably did that.

I bet that Ted Woolsey is a Rock & Roll fan. I mean, why would he chose the name of those people.

If there was an Axel or M.Shadows I would definately know there is a connection.

For the same reason Cid is in all the Final Fantasies.

Wedge & Biggs appeared most(at least) Final Fantasy games.... I don't know if they're cameos or the FF makers makes them a semi-regular characters.

Well, it sure beats their Japanese names (Vinegar, Soy Sauce, and Mayonnaise).  A lot of names were changed in the English version, probably to Westernize it.  And their prior names were kinda silly (not to say Ozzie, Slash, and Flea are by any means normal names, but yeah).  Either way, the name changes are intentional and by no means a coincidence.

hmmm.. i wish they gave frog a real person name, its kinda like unlikely that they just call him frog just because hes a frog.......i would prefer they call him on his human name, or he could have made a new hero name......

He called himself Frog so that people wouldn't know his true identity. Plus: Off-topic.

xD Ya know something, if you know the character designer of Chrono Trigger you'd ALSO know that he's FAMOUS for giving food ingredients as names for his characters! :P Yep, Akira Toriyama! (Big fan of his though <3) Especially in his Dragonball series, you can see he's named a lot of characters as "Garlic, Garlic Jr., Spice, Vinegar, etc." And if you've played Crono Chross, you'd notice that the characters Solt, Peppor and Ketchop were actually inspired by his creativity. ;o

"They're evil, tone-deaf fiends!" Yeah a little of the translator's opinion, but the original 3 names I'm told were taken from music too. For those of you who were into rock back in the 80s, the music which was new then was considered by older people to be simply loud and lacking in musical ability, by one's standards of say 50s music, could be called tone-deaf.

And in case anyone else sees this, the references in Final Fantasy to Wedge and Biggs in many different games are a reference to the Wedge and Biggs from Star Wars 4 (the original one). They were X-wing pilots along with Luke during the attack on the death star.

one of the things that blew my mind as a kid was my realization that when Biggs and Wedge were sent to another dimension by the esper, they ended up in the millennial fair of CT. I always thought that was cool.

and speaking of time travel, it feels strange replying to a thread from over a decade ago.
