I don't have a desktop up at the moment, but I usually use these Cowboy Bebop themed desktops:

Pfft. Silly apple users. ;)
My desktop is categorised into sections, then there are subcatergories within those sections. And if needs be, another categorisation below that.
It allows me to quickly and easily access any program I want from my desktop without clutter.

I was gonna say Gray, what programs do you got going on there? I've never heard of them and I use OSX. What is it, Linux? God, I need to learn how to use that OS. It scares me, though.

My laptop is not connected to the internet, or I'd give ya that. This desktop is...well, I'm not gonna show it to you =p

I know how you feel. I need to reinstall SuSe, but with someone who knows Linux to walk be through the set up.

Well...if macs have some sort of Prnt Scrn that I don't know about, maybe I will...but I'm currently unaware of such handy functions, even on this nifty keyboard...I dunno of OSX offers that function.

...and who said anything about porn on my desktop? On the desktop of the family computer? In a Mormon household? I didn't...

I didnt know that OSX didnt have a screenshot function, sorry. Regarding the porno: it was kind of a humourous retort to the above quote.

My computer runs Fedora Core 4 with KDE 3.5.

The translucency comes from the xcomposite windowing manager.

The open programs are Konqueror, a web browser; amaroK, a jukebox program; and Kword, a word processor.

Let me put it this way; I have yet to find a reason to reinstall windows.

Most Linux install disks come with literally thousands of programs, as opposed to Windows, which requires you to purchase additional software for things like word processing.  You may already use free software like Firefox or OpenOffice, which work the same in Linux.

Some programs like AutoCAD do not have a Linux version, but it is possible to run some of these programs with a windows emulator.

Many hardware vendors only provide windows drivers, so things like the wireless networking on your laptop might not work with Linux.  Your Windows software modem will not work in Linux.

The only reason to stick with Windows is for PC Gaming, although it is possible to dual boot Windows and Linux for this purpose.

Any particular reason you went with Fedora over, say, SuSe or Mandriva? How skilled were you with Linux before you made the change? Sorry if this is annoying, but I'm interested in using Linux, but I've been having bad luck with it, and I don't know anyone who can help walk me through stuff, and since one of the things that doesn't work is the internet...
