Reviving the CT Flash Series
« on: November 19, 2005, 10:16:44 pm »
For the past few weeks I've been kicking around the idea of resuming work on the CT Flash Series. I don't know if anyone from the original crew is still interested, but I wanted to give you the first crack at things. Basically, if you still want to be involved, respond to this with the parts of the project you want to work on. Here's an illustrative list:

Script
Main scriptwriters - These people would be responsible for generating new episodes.
Script revisers - These people would give lots of feedback on each script. (To some extent, I hope that everyone would help with this!)

Graphics
Sprite rippers - When we need sprites from the game, these people would be responsible for getting and organizing them.
Custom spriters - When we need sprites not from the game, these people would be responsible for creating and organizing them.
Background artists - We'll inevitably need some custom backgrounds as we go, and these people would create them.

Audio
Casting - These people would generate and handle auditions for parts as necessary.
Voice acting directors - These people would handle getting the cast to record, rerecord if necessary, and submit their spoken lines in a timely manner.
Sound effects team - These people would find and prepare all the necessary sound effects.
Soundtrack composers - These people would handle the development of the soundtrack. (Once Chrono Symphonic is released, we'll have a better idea about this.)

Flash
Flash designers - These people would take the audio and graphics and combine them to create the final product. (Since I don't have much experience with Flash, I don't know how (or if) this can be broken down any further. It sounds like a lot for one person to do though.)

Website
Layout designers - These people would be responsible for organizing and managing the content of the website.
Graphics designers - These people would provide all of the graphics for the website.
Programmers - These people would develop and maintain the code behind the website.

Other
(Still a catchall category for the many things I can't think of right now.)

My overall goal is to restart the project in about six weeks or so, but if you are interested please respond as soon as you can. In a week or two I would like to begin the search for additional volunteers so that we can hit the ground running. And, as always, any and all ideas about the series are welcome.

Hope you are having a good fall.

Well, im prepared to re-enter the team (well technically, considering none of us really even left it). I think we need to PM each member of the team to get them to return. Then we need to establish a "Meeting Thread", in which we will discuss ideas on how to revive it properly, put each member into a staff position. This can only be achieved if we dont set a completion date yet. I think one of the main reasons the orginal team carcked it was because we were setting a completion too soon. Oh well, now that there are 2 of us, we should be able to sway more people to join and revive the old team.

PS: Perhaps one of us could ask ZeaLitY if he could put up a notice in the news that we're looking for the old team and any members wishing to join?

That's pretty much what I was thinking too. The "original team" should be contacted before we open things up to new members, though we will definitely need more help. I will send the PMs in a few hours if you don't beat me to it.

We should probably get the completion date removed from the info for this forum too.

EDIT: I sent the PMs.

IT LIIIIIIIVES!!!

Specter here, and I'm excited to see that this project is back in the running. I have a bit more skill to offer now, especially in terms of Flash proficiency; I'm currently nearing the end of my Flash-centric Multimedia 2 class, and here's a sample of something I made in the beginning of the class. And yes,... that is Magus on the bass guitar of doom.

At any rate, just letting you guys know I can probably handle more of the Flash-work now, along with the sprite editing and CGing I promised before. So... lesse here... mark me down for:

Script development... √
Graphic design . . . . . √
Flash design . . . . . . . √
Other . . . . . . . . . . . . √

That's great to hear, Specter! A nice bit of Flash you have there too (though I would have liked to see Magus jump out of a birthday cake of doom ).

I forgot to mention that I wrote drafts for a few more episodes since production was paused. Once we get a little more organized I'll start making them available. That'll give me time to revise a few of them one more time - (I'm a little bit of a perfectionist). Oh yeah, I should probably take my five finals too.

*raises mug of beer* All hail Specter and the almighty Magus on the "doom guitar" (he was rockin'!) *gets drunk*

...

...

...

*gets sober* Well, anyways, I congratulate you Specter, some great work done there, i must say, that Magus looked awesome! And welcome back to the team!

Yes, Luminaire, dont release the scripts yet, not until we have a whole team again. Take this time to revise them (as you said).

And that VERY entusiastic welcome is the kinda thing we all need here Specter! Good job![/quote]

I haven't really been to the compendium in a long time... not for any particular reason, guess just laziness

Anyway, I've made a lot of progress in flash over the past 3 weeks, but because I decided to do 2 animations for school projects.. I only had 2 or 3 days to do them (3 days for my first one and 2 days for the one I did sunday and yesterday), so they were very VERY VERY poor quality, but they were my first attempts at flash.. and yeah, they were made within 2 or 3 days
but I'd probably still be outshone in whatever I could do by Specter since all I've tried to work with so far has been stick figures, and in the second animation i was too lazy to even show them walking when they moved across the screen

I wish I could take a course in flash =/ I think there's an animation class at Moore during the summer.. maybe I could do that this summer

EDIT: I forgot the point.. I could help with animation or stuff of that nature if it isn't too complicated, but I can't exactly help with audio since I had to get a microphone from my school library for the animations I've done

Good to hear from you, Shadow_Dragon. If you're willing to help, I'm sure we'll have no problem finding something for you to work on.

I heard from SSJoseph, and he still wants to help too.

I also tried to expand my listing of tasks from the one I made a month ago; see the first post for that. (The list definitely needs adding to...)

Things are slowly starting to come together!

Well, once you all have Chrono Symphonic musakzzz to work with, I guess I'll be back on the team in that form.  Otherwise, good luck getting it all together.

Yeah, thanks for replying everyone! I think we can move to the next step: finding some more help. I think the most pressing needs are in audio and graphics.

Audio alone could probably use two or three people, as they'll need to work with the cast and get sound effects. (We can worry about the soundtrack later.)

We've got Specter and Shadow_Dragon in graphics, but I seem to remember wanting to get more spriters and such before the project was paused.

Looks like we've got a few good flash people, so we're probably okay there.

I can handle most of the script, though I would be willing to take more help. And of course I can't say enough how I want feedback from as many people as possible.

So now I pose a few questions:

1) What's the best way to add people to the team? (I made a thread for this right before we took a break, and you can reply either here or there.)

2) Do we want someone to direct/produce/etc? And what exactly does that mean, anyway?

3) Regardless of (2), should we maybe get one of us to moderate this thread? (I don't anticipate any problems, of course!)

OFF-TOPIC: In case you can't tell yet, I'm procrastinating from studying.  :P

As well as a webdesigner *waives hand and shows his two servers..1 10MBps Unmetered, 1 100MBps Unmetered*

 8) Yeah . . . I'm guessing he's got that job, no contest.

On the note of web design; although hardly an immediate concern (we have to get some of the Flash movies done, first and foremost) this project will definitely merit its own website eventually. And a good website, whether made in Flash or html, ought to be the work of a crew as well. For instance: Layout Designer(s) (plots out the general site scheme), Graphics Specialist(s) (makes all the buttons, backgrounds, banners, etc.), Programmer(s) (expert on coding and functionality)... etcetera and soforth.

Anywho, I ought to take this opportunity to update/reformat my contributions.
DEFINITELY IN AS:
-A script reviser
-A custom spriter
-a Flash designer
WILLING TO FUNCTION PART-TIME / AS-NEEDED AS:
-A main scriptwriter
(if you want/need a sample of my writing, I'll gladly provide)
-A background artist
-A sound effects team member
-An 'other' person, depending on what the 'other' is

And if anyone from the team ever needs to contact me for anything, best way is my e-mail: MysteriousVoiceGuy@gmail.com

Hope that's at least somewhat helpful.

Good call on the website stuff. I added it to the list of positions at the top of this thread.

In terms of the script, Specter, if you have any cool ideas about how a scene should go or have ideas for extra or extended scenes, I'd love to hear them. You can either write an abstract or even write a draft of said idea. This, of course, goes for everyone.

As for designating team leaders, here's kind of how I see it:

Script: Luminaire85
Graphics: Specter
Flash: SSJoseph
Audio: ? (Are you interested, Lordchander?)
Website: ? (This is less pressing than audio.)

Maybe by the end of the weekend we can make an announcement in Kajar Laboratories?

I could help out there, considering im less of a hands-on type person with projects like this. Mainly due to lack of skill in that area and a sloooow internet connection (48.2 KB/Sec to be exact). But don't fear for that spot yet, because we will be getting extra help (i.e getting more team members).

I think the best idea is to make a thread in another forum here. Perhaps in the Kajar Labs? Or even General Discussion, as many ppl still look in there. And instead of just making a call for anyone to join, put a list of jobs that need to be filled. That way we can see what skills ppl have.

I know some semi-medium HTML. But I lost Frontpage on my PC (which would have been extrememly handy). I have a friend who has two books on HTML and Java, but he is currently using them. I feel the website, though it is less important, needs to look GOOD. So I suppose it could be done in Flash or Java. Perhaps Flash would be better considering the actual main thing is a flash.

With the Audio, what is exactly required of it? Do you need a person to actually get in there and rip the music from the ROM, or are we getting random tunes to place in the Flash. I personally would love to see a bit of both in the Flash. I have the Soundtrack from the Pre-release on my PC, but its done in the SPC files and I don't have an SPC player. Could anyone supply a link at all to where to grab one? That would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Okay. Lordchander, Specter, and I will handle the bulk of the scripting duties.

The most pressing job in the audio department is the voice acting. Someone needs to be our representative to the many voice talents we already have and to those who will start applying as soon as we make that post in Kajar. This is one of the major things teh Schala was doing.

The soundtrack is probably the least important, as it among the last things necessary to finish an episode. I'm open to a lot of ways to do the music here, from the OSV to Symphonic to composing our own.

As for SPC info, I believe SNESmusic.org has just about everything you need to know. The Winamp plugin is probably best.

On the subject of new team members, I think we have three ways to do it:

1) Let anyone who wants to help join the team.
2) Only let people join who we think will be good team members.
3) Only let people join who fill our vacant positions.

(2) and (3) would naturally require some form of screening process.

So which one should we do? And if not (1), then what's the best screening process?
