Crazy Idea from PSX Chrono Trigger
« on: November 11, 2005, 01:56:13 pm »
I just had a crazy idea, and shoot it down gloriously if it won't work. I mean flame me to no end if this is a bad idea. Anyway, here it is. If I am not mistaken the psx version of Chrono Trigger is just the rom with an emulator and with some kind of way to tell when to insert the anime scenes.  Now depending on how it is stored on the CD, we rom-hackers may be able to use this to our advantage. If not we could probably do something similar. Its worth looking into reguardless.

Are you able to do stuff like that? Or do you want somebody to do that for you?

well I haven't even begun to check it out. It was just a crazy idea, like I said. Trying to inspire some research. Now whether or not I could do it, probably resides in whether or not it can be done. I am a software engineer, and know my way arround assembly quite well. But this whole idea involves some reverse engineering, that none of us may be up for.

Granted there are probably some really obvious reasons why it can't be done. I will be at least looking into it.

It's already been addressed that the PSX CT has a CT ROM in .bin format, I believe, just sitting on there. Whether it's used or not, I don't remember. I think it's already been analyzed and discovered to be nothing new, but I may be wrong.

And another thing, use the Edit function, don't keep posting and posting like that. You'll get hammered by Mods.

...

The ROM on the PSX is the Japanese one, and no one really knows why it's on there. As for the real CT game thats meant to be played on the disc, I'm not sure how that works.

Isnīt it possible to try to rip the .bin off and c if the game still works? Like copy everything to PC, cut off .bin, and burn on cd. Or try it with an .iso of it for the guys who are using a psx emulater.
Donno why someone should try, just a thought

Yeah, that's how I...got the game...

But it's still a .bin; nothing really editable.
