Chrono Cross Magic System
« on: November 08, 2005, 09:23:54 pm »
Did you notice that Chrono Cross has pretty much the same battle system as Final Fantasy (1)?  You need to buy you spells, and their are multiple slots.  The only real differences are that in Chrono Cross, your elements are refreshed between battles, and you need to build up stamina.  Plus, the interface is more graphic.

Therefore, we can conclude Chrono Cross' battle system isn't as original as we (I) suppose.

Don't forget that the slot system is pretty similar to FF VII's...The element system wasn't really what made Chrono Cross's battle system unique; it was more the 3 levels of attacks, stamina and magic level, being able to fight essentially until everybody's at zero (with some interjections of monster techniques, of course)etc.

It woudve been nice if they added more double and triple techs woudnt you agree? I feel ashamed to say I have never even seen the Delta Storm (or Force can't remember) A 3D version of Antipode might have been nice. or even throwing in a Dark Matter for Guile 8)

Most double & triple techs were so unimportant though, even in a first playthrough situation that there wouldn't be a reason to have more of them, they'd just take up Element grid places...You'd have to give the whole battle system a face-lift to incorperate more Techs (of any kind).

yeah I can understand that, though X-Strike really came through for me when I took the glenn path(only double tech I really used, others were just tested to see what they looked like) In any case I guess I was just wanting to see 3D versions of all my old favorite techs from Trigger

Well there's always Luminaire, BlackHole, and I always thought that Inferno looked like a 3D Flare...And from what they did w/Luminaire, I'd rather they left all the awesome 2D spells alone...>_>

Yeah when I first seen Luminaire It was really cool looking but I didnt feel it gave justice to the original. Also I know about Masamune(the creature) showing up in flying arrow but i heard somewhere the effect is diffrent for the silver swallow.

The biggest thing CC did to upset me was the Element system. I hated it. It requires more strategy and caretaking. But I don't like that. I'd rather know which characters have what spells, being that the spells are individual to the character, and strategise from that. CT was perfect. CC gave in to the standards of FF7 and FF8 of basically making it so all characters could be virtually the same magic-wise. Grr.

I especially hated how they fucked over Luminaire. What a shame.

I don't know if I'd actually say you have to "Strategize" at all...But it takes up more time in allocating Elements to your party...but if you stick w/one fairly consistant party throughout the game, it shouldn't be as bad...

Oh, yeah, I forgot, Leah also has a TripleKick Tech.

Yeah thats kinda my case when I first played it. I stuck with Serge Guile and Kid when the game allowed. My second playthrough i switched between some of them but still found myself sticking with the same party.

It was too easy to use and involved little stratagy if you have the right attack command pattern for your party figured out 100% My time was around 39 hours but you'll have to add up the times I forgot to pause while doing chores, getting my gameing snacks (like pop-tarts, Ice-Cream, cookies, the occasional apple/bananna,) having to chase your little brother around for annoying you till you can't think rationally and you loose all reason for holdind back your anger and letting it loose! So subtract about 5hrs. from my time. I plan to run through it again because I olny figured this out at the Fort.

I beat the games faster than ff6 which I beat in 26 hours.. I was really disapointed with alot of things.. I really ahve to agree with the  they went with quantity over quality
