Sure; I'll pass the finished script along in several days, probably.

Man, I COMPLETELY FORGOT about JLukas's event fixes:

http://www.chronocompendium.com/Term/Codes_(CTP)#Location_and_Event_Enable_codes

Can someone make an IPS patch out of those? Come to think of it, JLukas might have been making one at one time. Anyhow, hard-patching the ROM is favorable because then I can explore the locations with Temporal Flux to track down the speakers of certain weird lines.

Now, if I can just remember what I was trying to find in Ioka's events...

Just turning the codes into a patch won't be enough in some cases. Ingame, text block 6 starts with the Prophet line ending block 5, throwing all the strings in that bank off when playing the game.

The entirety of Medina and Heckran's cave (except Melchior's) is off.

Well, PMed in case he's still making that patch...perhaps we won't have much use for it in this application, but a fixed Prerelease patch that lets you explore at will might be nice down the road. I guess it'd come about when Temporal Flux can edit the Prerelease.

Text Block 08a  3BDE49-3BE4FC  [unpointed] is another totally bizarre block, judging from Google Language. I can safely say that it and the last bizarre text block probably don't use an earlier table, because NPC names appear normal (Gran and Leon speak in that one, IIRC), and too much text seems...well, normal enough. This unpointed text is totally about Guardia, and I can't figure out what's going on. Something about Magus, the Queen, the King...we may just end up having to have these two huge chunks of unpointed text translated straight.

Algetty has some unique lines; mainly, most of the exposition is concentrated in one guy in the elder's room who asks you if you want to hear about Zeal. He makes a reference to the Prophet at some point. The middle of his dialogue matches up with something in the final.

Edit: Man, it feels good to be doing this. It's like old times, when everything was left unexplored and unanalyzed...

Edit 2: JLukas alerted me to something I'd forgotten about TF. Open the Prerelease ROM, hit File > Patches > Beta Events. Problem solved.

That still doesn't solve the problem I mentioned.
Here's a patch that hacks the Medina events to change the stringbank used.

TRANSFOOOORM!

Remember that lost line from the final version? It's originally this:

 ドッペルチェ~ンジ![END] (Dopple chaaange!)

Which appears in Crono's room when you take the Dopple-doll. That's one solved lost line...

Edit: Okay, done with Lab 32 and Proto Dome.

"Dopple chaange" also exists in 1000 AD Guardia Castle. Makes me wonder if the line had to do with the clones/doppel dolls.

 [Chief]

[END]

[END]

Those appear at the end of 65,000,000 B.C., and talk about Laruba. They correspond with Laruba villager lines at the Meeting Site in the index, but they're very different. I can't seem to find them in the game's events...

Know anything about these too? They appear after the era choices at the End of Time, but I can't seem to find equivalents.

We potentially have a gold mine with the End of Time. If Google Translate is correct, Gaspar outright states that the pendant has to react with the Time Egg to create a distortion; that it has to be done near one of Lavos's space-time distortions; and that Gaspar recognizes Magus from the Ocean Temple (which was later changed to recognizing him as Janus, who "aged quite a bit"). The last two strings also seem to be messages from the developers.

End of Time Party Lines

It seems several unique "take me along?" lines existed for the parts of the game where Crono was required to be in the party:
Actually, these lines appear when you talk to Crono in the End of Time.

Quote
[END]
This is said when bit 02 of 7F005A (Lucca flags) is set.
Interestingly, when bit 01 or 02 of 7F00AB is set, you get the picture I've attached.
In the events, there's an object there which sets bit 02 of 7F005A and sends you to Lucca's room.

Judging from Google Translate, I'm going to go ahead and call that this is the 990 A.D. event.

Here's my description of what happens:

Quote
(Talk to Gaspar with bit 01 of 7F00AB set):
老人「あそこの、はなれたゲートには
   行ってはならんぞ……。
   ことにお前さんらのような
   わかものはな……。

(Lucca goes over to the corner, if in the party)

(Party regroups).

(I'm not sure how to trigger it normally, but when you use the gate)

Those 65,000,000 B.C. lines are said in the meeting site. The first one is said by a male villager (not a chief).

[END]

Jari: In this version you can't go beyond this point, jari.

Any idea where this appears?

One more text block + unpointed text block, and the script is done!

Edit: And the lists, but those should be easy.

That's the barrier of imps at the north end of 1000 A.D. Guardia forest. I guess it's sad in some ways that this is nearly complete.

One last thing. Since Temporal Flux doesn't display the credits, how do I get at this:

Quote
In the final, from 0x3DA200h to 0x3DA9FF, there is a block of ASCII text containing the credits. There are a few things that make this odd though. First of all, it is stored as plain ASCII, standard computer encoding, while all the rest of the game uses the encoding unique to the game. More oddness at the end:

THE END.B.C.650000000.A.D.600.A.D.2300.BEIDESU/NANASINO GONBEIDESU/NANASINO GONBEIDESU/NANASINO GONBEIDESU.THE END

First, the text, The End. 'The End' does appear at the end of the credits, but as a large golden graphic, not as plain text as the rest of this. Immediately after we have text for 65m, 600 AD, and 2300 AD. Why are there era names here, and why only three? The next part may answer it: 2300 AD overwrites halfway into NANASHINO GONBEIDESU ('nameless' in Japanese). The nanashi's continue, ending with a similar THE END. Most likely, the era names were held over from an earlier version that used that text somewhere, possibly in the credits (remember that in the Epoch ending, scenes from 65m [Kino & Ayla on dactyls], 2300 AD [good future with Robo and Atropos], and 600 AD [Leene and Frog/Glenn]). Purely conjecture here, but perhaps originally when these scenes were shown, this text displayed to show the era. If that's the case as well, then maybe the original scene order was 65m -> 600 AD -> 2300 AD, instead of ending in 600 like in the final. Well, I like the way the final turned out. =) The 'nanashi no gonbei desu' phrases were probably place holders for the future names of playtesters and such for the credits. This text does not appear in the prerelease.

Edit: The enemy names are full of good stuff which Ryoga has translated and visually documented, so release won't be tonight. I have to add this stuff to the encyclopedia.

Thanks; that clinches it.

Does anyone have Chickenlump's old Pretweaker.exe? I need it to check out a couple enemies for editing the monster page.

Edit: The script is ready. I'll now prepare a news update for the site to carry the announcement.

Edit 2: For Glitter, this line is also related to the Lucca event:

老人「だから言ったろう。
   行ってはならんと……。

   過去を変える事がいつもベストな方法とは
   限らないんじゃ。
   過去をこうかいするよりも、今のお前さんの
   気持を大切にする事じゃな……。[END]

I'll e-mail you about the script.
