Gotta disagree with you on Secret of Mana. Randi begins the game by going on an adventure at the waterfalls. Purim first appears to rescue him from the Goblins. Popoi's introduction is a scam stage show.

Not near enough killing.  Look at the start of FF4!  Cecil beats the crap out of lots of stuff there, with Red Wings music!

That part seemed... Bland.

It was nothing special, but like someone said it was a good way to introduce what Serge's life was like before the whole mess began.

It made me feel really bad.
I mean, killing animal pups only to collect pieces of their skin... only to do a damn collar!  :evil:  And then you even go and kill the mom who was trying to protect the pups...

I think that plotwise links really well with the general feeling of the game, of how mankind destroys nature selfishly. Related to the hydra/dwarves quest and to the general oppinion of demihumans and dragonians.

I agree with the people who didn't call it a side quest as it really isn't.

But, I guess it was an overall okay event to do, but I will definitely drink to the fact that Leena's a bitch and a half.  My first time through the game, I saw the way she was talking to Serge and I'm thinking "God...what a bitch....What does Serge see in her?"
