Stupid Question
« on: October 07, 2005, 01:10:10 am »
This might be fun. Probably not. You ask a stupid question, and the next poster must answer it. You have to answer before you can ask. So its like:
Q: Why arent cartoons ever aired live?
A: "Cartoons are hardly ever aired live. Its puts a great strain on the animators wrist"
So, yeah, you can quote things too. The answer should be as stupid as the question, yhough it doesnt have to be. My question is:
Why is Australia in the Southern Hemisphere?

I still think you should delete ALL the posts and lock the thread, but that's just me.

I'm not so terribly sad to see this sort of "pruning" done on topics that have no personal value to me, but I would hate to see it done to topics that do. If I may ask, what's to keep you and the other moderators and administrators from expanding this technique to other threads summarily? If you're going to continue deleting conversations, I'd like to see it codified on the policy page in explicit terms. It isn't decent to rewrite history so frivolously.

Well, the rule only extends to topics with no readability value whatsoever. No one is going to voluntarily read through the hundred pages of Word Association topic; for what reason would anyone? This Stupid Question topic does contain at least some "replay value", but it's strained due to the nature of the humor and the pithiness of the posts. Altogether, the backpages of these threads are virtually abandoned. Any kind of real discussion would never be pruned.

I only in intend to treat pure spam topics like this.  I believe the rules already covers this angle:

Quote
Do not post one word or one line comments, images or links with no captions or descriptions, large and obtrusive images, or comments containing large areas of empty space.

However, if you are not satisfied, you could draft up a new clause for the rules page.
