Now that I have some time, I need to standardize the forums. I've received a couple of notes, and my question is, what should we go with?

Current:

Suggested concept:

The proposed concept would be a bit more minimalistic and wouldn't require as much scrolling. However, it would break off the forums from the main site navigation bar. What do you think?

Skelly's pelvic bone? Did I miss something?

And what's with the depressing dark blue scheme! Yecch. I cast my eternal vote for vibrant but subdued color schemes. There's my two cents!

I use the blue one.  Its not depressing.  I think the other one is too bright.  Anyway, I just link directly to the forums, so if the banner here goes agianst the main site, I don't care.

I hope you're not planning to do away with the SubSilver theme.  If I can't read black text on a white background, I'm seriously never comming back to the site.

Nah, nothing will be done away with. Each forum will just have the same header displaying site navigation icons or bars.

It seems I over-reacted.

With regards to the icons, remember that less is more.  I would recommend that you keep the present text headings.  The Cross icons are far to busy and are not related to the contents of the different sections.

Seems I did something bad...  I was trying out the other themes, and I tryed out the ZurvanNoFrame one, and now, when I try to log onto my account, I get this:

Quote
phpBB : Critical Error

Could not open ZurvanNoFrames template config file

DEBUG MODE

Line : 327
File : /home/content/c/c/u/ccuser/html/Forums/includes/functions.php

I'm pretty sure its because that theme doesnt work, or something.  But until its at least fixed so the page can load, I'm stuck out of my account...

Just for the record, I'd like very much to know about the Pelvic Bone, too.

Gah, I just got weaned off the old blue one and now it's a potential candidate for the standard? Figures...

Eh...I could go either way, though I'm starting to prefer this theme more. It seems more professional and easier to read.

For the forums... personally, I've been using this 'Classic' background ever since I found out about it, and hardly think I'd change it unless some need pressed me. In fact, I think I only started posting here regularly after I found I could select it - an interesting connection, and a valid one, I think. It reminds me of the Chronicles site: white on dark grey. Morose, sombre, melancholy. Not depressing, though. Just... what did I read the other day? Something about a sad heart being better than a happy one, for wisdom lies in the house of sorrow? Something like that. In Ecclesiasties, my favourite Biblical book. I think there's something too that, and the more sombre mood fits better with serious analysis, and discerning wisdom.
