A question regarding Miguel in both dimensions
« on: September 13, 2022, 07:32:02 pm »
Hi everybody, I'm a long time fan of the series but a first time poster, I was looking to ask about Miguel's status from Home World in CC. According to his entry in the compendium the Home World version died when the Dead Sea was formed and his Another World identity was sent to guard the Flame in the Dead Sea afterwards. I was wondering if anybody here had the lines where this was explained, as I thought FATE lacked a way to interact with Home World beyond observation and I don't know how Miguel would have been able to move across dimensions. Thanks for any clarification  :)

Welcome tot he party!

Quote from: Miguel
   Yes... I've been here
   in this very place...
   For 14 years...
   It wasn't like this
   when I got here, though...
   An incident that occurred
   10 years ago, transformed
   it into the Dead Sea.
This is Home World's Miguel speaking. He remembers the Sea of Eden becoming the Dead Sea, so I don't know where the idea that he died came from.

Quote from: Chronopolis Computer
   However...
   Ever since the formation of
the Dead Sea 10 years ago...
FATE has been unable to intervene
   directly with World 01.
The best FATE could do was cross
   the dimension and receive data
   through the Records of Fate.
   And with much difficulty, FATE
   succeeded in binding Miguel
to the Dead Sea as a watchman...
Another World's Miguel is unaccounted for, but I don't see anything in the script to suggest that he replaced his Home World version in the Dead Sea.

I think Miguel's encyclopedia entry needs an edit to clear up this confusion.

Though it begs the question as to how did he survived the transition when just about everything else... didn't.

If you want further proof, there's the Ultimania stating this:

Quote
Question: What could be the reason that Miguel was stuck in the Dead Sea? And,
were there two of him in existence?

Answer: 14 years ago when he entered the Sea of Eden, he was bewitched. By
the knowledge of the future, by the powers of FATE. Perhaps he was
overwhelmed in the sea of information, perhaps he became one with Chronopolis.
When the world separated into two, of course, there were two of him. The one
who was in Chronopolis, was eliminated by FATE, I'm afraid.

Thank you both for the answers! I thought the whole thing seemed unlikely to be totally accurate.

I guess a related question is: Was the FATE that Miguel was talking about the Home World version of FATE? And is that the one that says ""I Love you so so much, that's why sometimes I want to smash you to bits..."". That's what I've been thinking.

Tweaked the encyclopedia. I'll try and go through Ultimania this update now that we can use DeepL to translate.
